This stoneware clay sculpture depicts St. Therese standing on a globe with steps. The
globe represents the world, the Church Militant. The steps represent the levels of
Purgatory where the Church Suffering is. A stylized rosette under one of her hands
represent the Church Triumphant, those who are in Heaven. With her other hand she drops
petals on the Church Suffering and the Church Militant as she had said she and the
Triumphant would do. St. Therese's feet point down, "sort of a form of levitation,
the way her body would be after death." For the same reason, her Carmelite habit
flows freely behind her back.
