The Sea of Galilee was noted
for its abundance of fish. Fishermen still cast their nets from boats (photo

A sculpture
of Peter kneeling before Jesus on the shore recalls the incident when the
risen Jesus appeared to the disciples on the shore, cooked them breakfast,
and commissioned Peter to "feed his sheep" (John 21).

Tagbha - place of "seven
springs"
Taghba is a place of
springs two miles west of Capernaum. A 4th century Byzantine mosaic (pictured
above) depicts the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and fish
where Jesus fed the five thousand who gathered to hear him preach.
A very strong current
of water, from the "source of the Capernaum", flows into the Sea
of Galilee near a natural
harbor, also called the Harbor of Peter. Fishermen could
easily have washed their
nets here.
