Bethsaida
The next day Jesus decided
to go to Galilee. And he found Philip and said to him, "Follow me." Now
Philip was from Beth-sa'ida, the city of Andrew and Peter. (John 1:43-44)
The remains of the town of
Bethsaida, located on a hill overlooking the northern shore of the Sea
of Galilee, offers a commanding view of the lake. Bethsaida means "House
of the Fisherman". Near here Jesus fed the 5,000 (Luke 9:10) and
healed a blind man (Mark 8:22). Three of his apostles, Peter, Andrew
and Philip, were from Bethsaida. Jesus rebuked this town along with
Chorazin for its lack of response to his message and miracles (Matt. 11:21;
Luke 10:13).
