The following prayers along with the verses of the hymn "O Come, O Come, Immanuel", are based on seven prayers from the early church used in the seven days before Christmas. These prayers address Christ using many of the Messianic titles found in the Old Testament.LEADER: O Immanuel, our King and Lawgiver, the Expected One of the Nations and their Savior, come to save us O Lord our God. GROUP: Come, Lord, come to save us. LEADER: O Lord of Hosts and Leader of the House of Israel, who appeared to Moses in the fire of the burning bush and gave him the Law on Sinai, come to redeem us by your outstretched arm. GROUP: Come, Lord, come to save us. LEADER: The Spirit of the Lord moved over the darkness of earth and there was light and life. May the burning of this candle remind us of the Lord's coming. GROUP: Amen. Light the candle. LEADER: All-powerful God, fill us with the fruits of righteousness that Christ may receive an eager welcome from us at his coming and call us to his side in the kingdom of heaven, where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. GROUP: Amen. Sing verses one and two of O Come, O Come, Immanuel. |
O Come, O Come, Immanuel (1) O come, O come, Emmanuel,
Refrain: Rejoice!
Rejoice! Immanuel
(2) O come, O come, Thou
Lord of Might,
Refrain: Rejoice!
Rejoice! Immanuel
