African American Ministry

In 1976, Cardinal Baum then Archbishop of Washington established the Office of Black Catholics. We are establishing an African American Ministry here at St. Columba to serve as a vital communication link in our Parish, with neighboring Parishes, the Archdiocese of Washington, the Office of Black Catholics and the National Black Catholic Congress.

The St. Columba African American Ministry was established at St. Columba Catholic church in October 2003. The African American Ministry (AAM) board was sworn in at the noon Mass on November 2, 2003, by Father Mike King. There are approximately 12 members who meet routinely, on the first Wednesday of each month at 7PM, in the St. Columba Catholic church library. The AAM focuses on sharing our rich, vibrant African American Catholic history.
