First Communion

On May 11, we will have the First Communion in our parish. It is a very important celebration in our parish life!

It is always moving to see how children receive communion for the very first time. The simplicity of their gaze, the purity of their hearts, and the certainty that Jesus is really present are an example which we should follow. So many times routine, superficiality, distractions, and skepticism prevent the communion that we receive from being a real encounter with Christ.

 When I am celebrating Mass, I ask Jesus to give me the same simplicity of heart and attention that I had on the day of my First Communion. Celebrating Mass every day, sometimes more than once, it is so easy to fall into the routine of a rite already known. Instead, in every Mass we are called to be surprised by the presence of Jesus.

Let us pray for the children who are going to receive their First Communion that their example helps us to always be surprised by Jesus’ real presence in the Eucharist.

Primera Comunión

El 11 de mayo vamos a tener la Primera Comunión en nuestra parroquia. ¡Es una celebracion muy especial en nuestra vida parroquial!  Siempre es muy emocionante ver como los niños reciben comunión por la primera ves. La sencillez en sus miradas, la pureza de sus corazones, y la certeza que Jesus realmente esta presente son ejemplos que debemos seguir. Muchas veces rutinas, la superficialidad, distracciones, y escepticismo nos impide un encuentro real con Cristo cuando recibimos la comunión.

 Cuando yo estoy celebrando la  Misa, yo le pido a Jesus que me de la misma sencillez de corazón y atención que tuve el dia de mi Primera Comunión.  Celebrando Misa todos los dias, hay veces varias veces al dia, es muy facil caer en la rutina de un rito que yo conozco. En cambio, en cada Misa somos llamados a ser sorprendidos por la presencia de Jesus.

 Recemos por los niños quienes van a recibir su Primera Comunión, que su ejemplo nos ayude a siempre ser sorprendidos por la presencia real de Jesus en la Eucaristía.

The poor box recipient for the month of May is World Villages for Children. Founded by Msgr. Aloysius Schwartz, WVC provides financial support to the charity programs of the Sisters of Mary in the Philippines, Brazil, Korea, Mexico, and Guatemala.

El receptor de la caja de limosnas en el mes de mayo es World Villages for Children. Fundada por Msgr. Aloysius Schwartz, WVC ofrece ayuda economica a los programas de caridad de Sisters of Mary en las Filipinas, Brasil, Korea, Mexico, y Guatemala. 

BETHESDA CARES 

During the month of May, Social Concerns is hosting a drive for Bethesda Cares. We are collecting new or lightly used household items for homeless veterans getting re-established in new residences. A list of needed items is in this bulletin and is also posted in the back of the church.

Durante el mes de mayo, la Comisión Social estara colectando artículos caseros nuevos y con poca utilizacion para veteranos sin hogar quienes estan reestablesiendose en nuevas residencias. La lista de articulos necesitados esta em e; boletn y estara atras en la iglesia.

LISTENING SESSIONS/SESIONES DE ESCUCHA 

Those who were unable to attend the Listening Sessions may comment online by visiting the website of the Archdiocese of Washington at adw.org.

SOCIAL CONCERNS COMMISSION/COMISION DE ASUNTOS SOCIALES 

Volunteer at the Shepherd’s Table on the 4th Thursday of every month. There are two shifts available: 4:00-5:30 pm (food prep) and 5:30-7:45 pm (serve and cleanup) For more information, call Liz Weiss at 301-588-6726.

FOOD PANTRY 

Parishioners are reminded that the 4th Sunday of every month food donations are accepted in the baskets provided in the vestibule of the church. The donated food items help stock our food pantry here at Christ the King. For additional information please contact Dolores at 301-577-4534.

Les recordamos a los feligreses que el cuarto domingo de cada mes las donaciónes de alimentos serán aceptadas en las canastas en el vestíbulo de la iglesia. Estas donaciónes ayudan mantener nuestra despensa comunitaria.

If you would like your mother remembered for Mother’s Day, we have Mother’s Day envelopes in the back of the church. 

Si quiere que su madre sea recordada para el dia de las madres, tenemos sobres para el dia de las madres atras de la iglesia.

MAY DEVOTIONS/DEVOCIONES DE MAYO

May is the month traditionally dedicated to Our Lady. Each Thursday in this Year of Faith, beginning on May 2, at 6:30 p.m., we will have May Devotions, consisting of Marian hymns, the rosary, and the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The devotions will conclude with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at the usual time of 7 p.m. Please join us in honoring our Blessed Mother during this beautiful month of May. 

Mayo es el mes en que tradicionalmente dedicamos a Nuestra Señora. Cada jueves de este año de fe, comensando el 2 de mayo, a las 6:30 p.m., vamos a tener Mayo de Devociónes, consistiendo de cantos marianos, el Rosario, y Letanía de la Santísima Virgen Maria. Las devociónes concluirán con la Bendición del Santísimo Sacramento a la hora usual de 7 p.m. Por favor acompañenos en honrar a Nuestra Madre Bendita durante este bello mes de Mayo. 

STATUE INAUGURATION/INAGURACION DE ESTATUA

Celebrate Mother’s Day with us on Sunday May 12th at 11:30 am by joining us in inaugurating the Our Lady statue which was bought in 2010 with offerings of many parishioners to pay homage to Father John Plans for his service to our Parish. The statue will be located in the landscape in front of the Church, on the right side.

Celebre el Dia de las Madres con nosotros, domingo 12 de mayo a la 11:30 a.m. inaugurarando la estatua de Nuestra Señora. La estatua fue comprada en 2010 con las ofrendas de varios feligreses para dar homenaje a Padre John Plans for su servicio a nuestra Parroquia. La estatua va ser ubicada en el paisaje en frente de la Iglesia al lado derecho.
