Ron Bovard

Ron Bovard received his B.A. in 1971 and became an independent artist. Carnegie Museum exhibited Ron’s work for the first time in 1972. Ron went on to have over 25 one man shows in the U.S.A. and Europe. As art director for Creative Glass Works International in the early 1980’s, Ron helped develop the abrasive water jet cutting technology that is used in the glass industry today. In 1986 Ron started Bovard Studio stained glass.

Over the past 18 years Ron has assembled a team of leading stained glass artists and craftspeople at Bovard Studio Inc. He has designed a vented framing system for the conservation of stained glass windows with patent pending status. Ron has been the subject of three PBS television shows. He is the author of Windows For The Soul published by Wardell Publications and numerous articles on stained glass windows and stained glass restoration.

Bovard Studio, Inc. designs, fabricates and installs traditional and contemporary stained glass windows, and custom wood doors; and provides full protective covering systems, with our Precision Flow® ventilation, designed for the preservation of stained glass windows.



Gang Chen
Archdiocese of Chicago

Gang Chen currently is the Manager of Applications for the IT department at the Archdiocese of Chicago. He has been working there for more than fifteen years. Over the years, he has been involved in implementing many applications like HR, Financial and Accounting, Banking (deposit & loan), Parish Financial Report, Real Estate & Properties, and others.

He holds a BA in Computer Information Systems and Management and was a member and Secretary/Treasurer for the board of DISC (Diocesan Information Systems Conference).



Scott M. Conwell, AlA, CDT

Scott Conwell is the Illinois director of market development with the International Masonry Institute, joining IMI in 1995 after working as an architect in Chicago for eight years. He has developed and presented continuing education programs to designers and contractors all over the United States, and regularly delivers seminars at architectural and masonry conferences including national AlA and CSI conventions. He has lectured and served on design juries at architectural colleges throughout the country. He is a former national board member of the AlA Continuing Education Providers Advisory Council, and is currently industry vice president of the Chicago chapter Construction Specifications Institute. He sits on the editorial advisory board of Masonry Construction magazine. He has a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Illinois Institute of Technology, is a registered architect with NCARB certification, and a certified Construction Document Technologist.



Michael T. Davitt
Director of Real Estate
Archdiocese of Los Angeles

Michael has been with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles for over 5 years.

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles owns over 1800 parcels of land, which include 285 parishes, 250 grammar schools, 17 high schools, and 11 cemeteries. The real estate portfolio also includes vacant land, commercial buildings and housing units.

Before joining the Archdiocese, Michael was a Development Manager with the City of Glendale. He was responsible for the development of low income and affordable housing projects. Before joining the City, Michael was a commercial real estate broker specializing in the leasing and management of industrial properties in the San Gabriel Valley.

Michael has a Bachelors Degree from Loyola Marymount University, and a Master in Public Administration from California State University, Northridge. He holds a California Real Estate Brokers License and also teaches Real Estate Principles Course at Glendale Community College.

Last year he was appointed to the Planning Commission for the City of La Canada, which is the City in which he resides. Michael is married to his wife Alison and they have 4 children.



Michelle Doyle
Associate Director Office of Government Liaison
US Conference of Catholic Bishops

Michelle works on education issues and health and environment issues that affect Catholic schools. In her work, she meets with members of Congress and their staffs and with members of the Administration to advance the USCCB's perspective on these legislative issues.

Prior to joining the USCCB staff, Michelle directed the Office of Non-Public Education at the U.S. Department of Education and served in the Diocese of Arlington as an assistant superintendent for government programs and an elementary school principal.

"Effective Monitoring of and Involvement in State and Federal Legislation"

With everything you have to do, who has time for monitoring legislation? Yet, to help ensure that legislation that would put undue burdens on your institution or be unfair to your institution is not imposed on you, you may have to get involved in legislative issues from time to time. This session will give tips on how to effectively monitor legislation on the state and federal levels (without committing you to another full time job!, and give highlights of what to expect from Congress over the next year in the areas of health, environment, and safety.



Michael Lee
Diocese of Salt Lake City

Michael Lee is the Director of Diocesan Pastoral Operations for the Diocese of Salt Lake City. He deals primarily with real property, construction, insurance, policy and pastoral administration issues for the diocese. He earned his undergraduate degree from Kalamazoo College and his law degree from Boston College School of Law.



Mr. McKew, PE, CPE

Mr. McKew, PE, CPE is the Director of Building Solutions Group at RDK Engineers and a Professional Engineer with nearly 40 years of experience in project management, design/build, building commissioning and facilities management support services. His area of expertise include systems design, operation and maintenance; cost estimating; building automation; and construction management. Mr. McKew's creative engineering solutions have garnered 12 building awards and one project, the Transportation Building in Boston, MA was recognized for innovative design in Ripley's Believe it or Not. His energy management solutions have resulted in significant energy and cost savings for his clients. Among the many awards he has received during his long career is a recent commendation for his work on design-build performance criteria for the 4 million SF, billion dollar Pentagon Renovation Project. Mr. McKew is the author of the monthly columns "Tomorrow's Engineer" and "Back to Basics" in Engineered Systems magazine.



Matt Messier, Senior Vice President
Trammel Crow Company

Matt Messier is senior vice president with Trammell Crow Company and head of the Specialty Brokerage Division. To date, they have represented over 1000 churches, schools and special use property owners in the disposition and/or purchase of real estate. He currently has numerous church owned properties for sale in 8 different states. He is a CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member) and an SIOR (member of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors), two of the leading commercial real estate organizations in the country.



Msgr. James Patrick Moroney
Executive Director, Liturgy Department
US Conference of Catholic Bishops

Monsignor James Patrick Moroney, a priest of the diocese of Worcester, is Executive Director of the Secretariat for the Liturgy of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. In 1999, Pope John Paul II appointed him as a consultor to the Congregation of Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments and he serves as an advisor to the Vox Clara Committee of the Congregation. A frequent lecturer in liturgy throughout the United States, Monsignor Moroney has spoken to over 14,000 priests and deacons in seventy two dioceses in recent years.



Lawrence E. Murtaugh
Diocese of Cleveland

Lawrence E. Murtaugh is President of Catholic Charities Facilities Corporation – a separately incorporated entity within the Catholic Charities System of the Diocese of Cleveland. Encompassing over 1.2 million square feet of property valued at over 150 million dollars in approximately 55 buildings and 22 different sites, the Catholic Charities Facilities Corporation acts as the property and asset manager of the Catholic Charities System. The property is extremely diverse, including farmland, residential camps, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities and inner-city community centers.

Mr. Murtaugh is a member of Catholic Charities USA, the Building Owners & Managers Association of Greater Cleveland, International Facilities Management Association, the Ohio Housing Council, and the Ohio Community Development Finance Fund. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Conference for Catholic Facility Management as Vice President, and the Board of Regents of St. Ignatius High School, The Jesuit Preparatory School in Cleveland. Mr. Murtaugh is currently a candidate for a Master of Science in Administration from the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame. A native of Northeast Ohio, Mr. Murtaugh currently resides in Lakewood with his wife, Ellen. They have six children and five grandchildren.



Robert M. Nickola, AIA
Principal, Jaeger, Nickola & Associates Ltd., Architects

An architectural design firm which practices exclusively with religious based clients. The firm has successfully completed in excess of 300 projects for church clients in a five state area. In the past ten years, the firms has worked with 54 parishes in the Archdiocese of Chicago, on projects ranging from historic church preservation to new elementary schools. Robert has been a principal in the firm since 1984, was an Assistant Professor of Architectural Technology at the University of Illinois at Chicago for 14 years, and is a past president of the Northeast Illinois Chapter of the American Institute of Architects.



Maureen A. O'Brien
Real Estate Manager
Archidocese of Chicago
Chicao, Illinois

Maureen A. O’Brien has overseen the real estate management for the Archdiocese of Chicago since 1996. The Archdiocese portfolio consists of 375 parishes and 100 sites. Ms. O’Brien’s responsibilities include lease negotiations, real estate valuation, strategic management and acquisition and disposition of real estate. During Maureen’s tenure, she has negotiated over $115 million in real estate sales and purchases. Maureen also over sees the leasing and management of the Diocese’s 225 leases. Prior to joining the Diocese Ms. O’Brien worked in commercial leasing for the Board of Trade and residential leasing and management. Maureen holds an Illinois Brokers License and a Certified Commercial Investment Member designation (CCIM).



William J. O’Connor
Archdiocese of New York
New York City, New York

Bill is Director of Building Commission of the Archdiocese of New York. In that capacity he manages a staff of over twenty professionals responsible for a portfolio of over 2000 buildings and properties. These include over 400 churches, 300 elementary and high schools, and hundreds of residences, office buildings hospitals, nursing homes and miscellaneous institutional projects. This unique experience has afforded him the opportunity to diagnose a variety of typical defects and maintenance issues. Bill holds a Bachelor's and Masters degree in Civil Engineering from Manhattan College in NY.



Martin V. Rambusch

Martin V. Rambusch, the Chairman of the Board of Rambusch Decorating Company, was awarded a Bachelor of Arts from Tulane University and a Master of Science from the Columbia School of Architecture, with a specialty in preservation.

Mr. Rambusch is currently the manager of the Rambusch Studios, and is project manager of the Crafts Division of the company that is involved with the conservation and preservation of church and public interiors. He handles the creation of church interiors as well as working in the trades of stained glass, metal, stone and wood.



Bob Rigali

Bob Rigali is Vice President of the Daprato Rigali Company and head of the stained glass division. Bob has over 25 years of experience in the stained glass field. He is known throughout the dioceses in the Midwest for his expertise in all facets of stained glass. Daprato Rigali has been designing, fabricating, installing, protecting and restoring stained glass since 1860.



Greg Veith
Archdiocese of Chicago

Greg is a structural engineer registered in the state of Illinois. Educated at Illinois Institute of Technology Nigh School. I've been active in the construction industry since 1960, either as an engineer designs all types of structures, or as a general contractor specializing in the designing and constructing of buildings. I've been with the archdiocese of Chicago for the past fifteen years, with the responsibility of all buildings, including maintenance programs, new construction, and educating parish committees in the art of putting together a master plan, hiring an architect, contractor and continuing through the construction process.



John W. Wells, III, PE

John W. Wells, III, PE is a licensed Mechanical Engineer in fourteen (14) states and is President of Consulting Engineering Associates, Inc., a mechanical engineering firm in Tampa, Florida. John served ASHRAE on the chapter level for over ten years, most recently as Florida West Coast Chapter's President. Currently, Mr. Wells is a member of the Handbook Committee of ASHRAE, responsible for chapter formulation in the Handbook of the Industry. John has extensive experience in the design of HVAC Systems ranging from small residential systems to large chilled water applications. His experience includes design of mechanical systems for religious, manufacturing, libraries, educational, commercial, health care and other types of facilities ranging in value from thousands to multi-million dollar projects.

John is also a member of the Florida Engineering Society, National Society of Professional Engineers, American Consulting Engineers Council, and the Florida Institute of Consulting Engineers.
