The original objectives of the Fellowship were directed towards handicapped children of the Roman Catholic faith.  However, when the demand for such a benevolent organisation was realised, the Fellowship soon broadened its remit to include those of other faiths, or none. As the youngsters aged and developed, the Fellowship later further widened its role to include vulnerable adults.

The Fellowship also recognises the valuable work done by parents, guardians and carers in ministering to those with special needs and the additional responsibilities this work entails. The Fellowship strives to provide whatever support it can in this necessary work.

The History and Constitution sections shown elsewhere give a more comprehensive insight to the Fellowship's raison d'ȇtre and aspirations.

The following policy statement on children and vulnerable adults was produced and adopted at the National Council's AGM in May 2003.
