Easter 2006

For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you procliam the death of the Lord until he comes" 1Cor 11:26

Holy Thursday

I
Today our church becomes the upper room where Jesus celebrated his passover meal with his disciples. The tabernacle is empty and the whole focus is on the altar.

We celebrate these three great gifts Jesus gave to his church

- the gift of the Holy Eacharist
- the gift of ministerial priesthood
- the Commandment of love and service

The final blessing is not given, a sense of silence slowly descends into our hearts and as we strip the holy altar, the Passion of Jesus begins.

As we look at the altar of repose, Jesus is asking:
"Can you keep watch with me for one hour?"
Good Friday

The main character of today's liturgy is of silence and reflection. Our church resembles calvary where we celebrate the saving Passion of Jesus for each one of us.
Easter Vigil
In accordance with ancient tradition, this night is one of vigil for the Lord (Exod 12:42) This night is an invitation to the faithful to have their lamps burning, ready to receive the risen Lord.

Tonight, the Church is teaching us through symbols. The blessing of water shows how we share the new life of the resurrection through our own baptism, The Paschal candle that shines in darkness shows that the Risen Lord is the light of our life.

The gloom of passion is gone and our church symbolises the empty tomb where all believers experience resurrection. As we begin to sing ALLELUIA our decorated church is the symbol of each one of us who is adorned with the spiritual blessings of Jesus' resurrection
