The Parish of St. Mary Immaculate & the Holy Archangels is, despite being one of the smallest parishes in terms of population in the Diocese, one of the largest in terms of area – 104 square miles and 10 villages.

There are three Catholic churches namely St. Mary Immaculate & the Holy Archangels in Kelvedon, St Bernard in Coggeshall and St. John Houghton in Tiptree and the Times of Services in the three churches encompass the needs of the population outside the Parish as well as the resident congregation.

The Parish is spiritually led by the Parish Priest Monsignor Gordon Read who was appointed in October 2000 and his assistant Priest Fr. Frank Jackson who was ordained in 1999. This most memorable event took place on a Very Blessed Weekend in June that year. Fr. Arthur Barrow's fond farewell took place in September 2000.

Surprisingly for such a diverse Parish no Catholic Schools lie within its boundaries and consequently educational facilities are shared with neighbouring towns.

In the summer of 1998 a Mission Week was held throughout the parish and from this emanated a number of Parish Groups whose work now contributes to the daily life of the Parish.
