I wanted a url easier to remember than www.rc.net/uk/brentwood/stmaryimmac/index2.htm
and ideally didn't cost anything, The above is what I came up with. (It's a
little unreliable at times)
General info wanted:
I have been trying some ideas for the new website as and when I can. I would
really appreciate some of your thoughts on what should be included on the new
site, as well as some (slightly) more technical information if you are able to.
What I am after is:
> Have you visited the current
website?
> What do you like/dislike about the current site?
> Anything missing you would like to see there?
and (Ignore any/all you don't understand):
> What is your screen resolution? (E.g. 800x600)
> What is your colour depth? (E.g. True Color 32bit)
> What web browser type and version number do you use? (E.g. MS Internet
Explorer v6)
> Can you view Flash content?
Ideas I currently have:
There should be two parts to the website. A static area which contains the
general info about the parish (who we are, how to get here, history, mass times,
etc..). The other side is what keeps people coming back and is updated regularly
to contain relevant info (Newsletter, meetings, events, etc..)
- Static:
- Who we are...
- info about the parish, the churches, the area, priest,
ministers, groups ( a lot taken from the current
site)
- Alter servers, info on what we do, how to become one,
instructions/guides (good examples at www.guildofststephen.org
)
- Where we are...
- Maps & directions to the area. (lots of sites provide this
info e.g. Streetmap.co.uk
)
- Photos
- local area interest (external links etc..)
- Church details...
- times of main masses
- photos inside church, virtual tour (If
I get the time)
- history (photos again)
- External resources...
- Links to other Catholic sites (Send me the urls)
- Changing:
- Newsletter...
- Current weeks newsletter (Was not as straight forward as I had
hoped to convert to html, might need looking into)
- Newsletter archive, Just the previous weeks listed by date (Would
be nice to be able to search)
- I've also converted the newsletter to .pdf format for download and
print, This maintains the original layout and structure
- Meetings...
- minutes of meetings (Example on site)
- calendar of meetings (formal and informal)
- Events...
- E.g. Fete, photos simple write-up etc
- Message board...
- Simple online discussion for general use
- For individual groups to arrange meetings etc..
Wanted:
- Anyone with knowledge of website design (or willing to learn). While I am
happy to take charge of the main site and Kelvedon specifically, I am
looking for anyone interested in taking responsibility for information on
Coggeshall and Tiptree.
- links to other sites you like. For any reason: content, design, usability.
Either to learn from or link to
- If you belong to any of the groups (Ecumenical, Justice & Peace,
Spiritual & Liturgical, etc..) If you would like to provide any information
on what you do, how to join, or if you would like to maintain a page.
- photos (old and new) of the church, buildings/people/events, historical
info.
finally.. (at last) You don't have to know anything about computers to
contribute, anything I've missed then let me know (above address)
