BAPTISMS
are usually celebrated monthly. Parents are asked to contact the parish office (419)589-5464 prior to establishing a date for baptism. In the case of a first child, both parents will be expected to attend an instruction class prior to the baptism. At least one parent must be a practicing Catholic. Regarding godparents, if both are not practicing Catholics, at least one godparent must be a practicing Catholic; the other may be a practicing member of another Christian denomination. Godparents must be at least 16 years of age, and Catholic godparents must have received baptism, confirmation, and first Eucharist. Non-Catholic godparents must be baptized and practicing in their respective church. Certificates of verification may be requested by the pastor.Preparation for CONFIRMATION, FIRST HOLY COMMUNION, AND PENANCE AND RECONCILIATION is through St. Mary School or the Religious Education Program. Confirmation is celebrated with our bishop every two years, and is usually received in grades 7-8. First Holy Communion is usually received in the second grade, and the sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation, by church law, is received before First Communion. Adults who have not completed their Christian initiation may contact the Director of Religious Education and Formation (419)589-2114 for further information.
Couples planning MARRIAGE are to begin their sessions with the Pastor or Deacon at LEAST six months prior to the wedding date. Individual circumstances may necessitate longer preparation. A date will not be set until the Pastor has met individually with the couple planning to marry. It is suggested that a reception hall reservation not be made until a date for the celebration has been confirmed with the Pastor.
