On August 1, 1999, current and former parishioners of all ages joined together to celebrate St. Mary's 50th year of service to the community. For those of you who missed it, the celebration began with an early afternoon Mass celebrated by Bishop James Hoffman. Also presiding were many of St. Mary's former pastors. St. Mary's welcomed back Fr. Sam Soprano, Fr. Jim Kurtz, and Sr. Olivieri, all former parishioners who went onto vocations in the Church. Fr. Soprano gave a reflective homily filled with memories of his time at St. Mary's. Charter members of the parish could be easily identified by their gold ribbon pin. Also in attendance was the media, including WMFD and Catholic Chronicle. The music for the mass was performed beautifully by both the folk group and the choir.
The Mass was followed by a reception in the cafeteria of the school. It was apparent that many hours had been spent in preparation for this event as many pictures from throughout our 50 year history were on display. Those in attendance were treated to cake and other refreshments as everyone reminisced together about how far St. Mary's has come from it's days in an old schoolhouse. It was a memorable day of past and present and when it was all over those in attendance had a great appreciation for "How Great Thou Art!"
