RESURRECTION ORGANIZATIONS
Traditional: Legion of Mary, St. Ann Sodality.
Cutting edge: C4, Churches Committed to Community
Concerns. Resurrection Parish’s organizations
reflect the interests and life of the people
in faith and community. Some are actually
more just a listing of members for service;
others have regular meeting and function
times. This will show how Resurrection is
still being true to its roots and growing
to meet new needs.
LEADERSHIP AND ADMINISTRATION
Resurrection Parish Council
The aim of the Resurrection Parish Council
is to work with the pastor and priests to
develop a vision for the parish-- to study
parish needs, and to work for unity of spirit
and purpose to fulfill the parish’s mission
of sanctifying believers and spreading the
Good News.
The council’s current concerns include parish
faith renewal programs, a process to develop
a parish mission statement, and evangelization
in the neighborhood.
Finance Committee
The Resurrection finance committee assists
the pastor in the management of the parish’s
funds. Areas of work include using the Archdiocesan
Revolving Fund’s system of deposits with
differing interest rates, school financing,
and converting the parish accounting to the
computerized Q-Rator system. Recently an
Endowment Fund was established to help with
long-term funding.
School Board
It is the responsibility of the School Board
to make, evaluate and judge the effectiveness
of the educational programs of the parish
and to make school policies.
LITURGY AND SPIRITUAL LIFE
Liturgy Committee:
This committee plans and organizes the Liturgy
for seasons and feast days throughout the
year.
Liturgical Ministers:
Communion Ministers To facilitate all of the people who would
be receiving Communion under both forms,
Communion Ministers have been appointed and
trained. We presently have over 50 men and
women involved in this ministry. Lectors The lector has the responsibility to present
Jesus Christ to the congregation. Our Lord
is present in the Liturgy of the Word and
the Reader is the instrument used to get
the message to us. Servers Boys and girls from 5th grade up assist
the priest at the altar. Fr. Argent trains
the children to be servers for Mass and also
for Special Feast Day celebrations. Ushers/Greeters Resurrection's ushers/greeters are men and
women who dedicate their service to the enhancement
of the celebration of Mass. They prepare
for and assist in an orderly progression
of the Mass and also exchange greeting with
parishioners before and after the liturgical
service. Sacristans Grace Hoffmann and her Ladies clean the
church every Friday. They keep the Altar
Linens and the albs the servers wear clean
and fresh.
Choirs
Our choirs are very important to Resurrection
parish because they enhance our liturgies
and inspire our community to worship. There
are two adult choirs at Resurrection, the
Funeral Choir and the Sunday Choir. The Funeral
Choir serves a necessary and very loving
purpose. The Sunday Choir (Guitarists and
singers) sings on Sunday mornings at 11:00
Mass and on special occasions. In using their
talents for the honor and glory of God, the
choir members help our community celebrations
to be truly joyful and uplifting.
Legion of Mary
The primary purpose of Legion of Mary membership
is to obtain personal sanctification through
prayer and service to the parish community.
The Legion offers works of assistance to
the pastor, such as census of the parish,
distributing religious literature, promoting
Enthronement of the Sacred Heart in the home,
arranging for the pastor to bless homes of
new parishioners, making condolence calls
to bereaved members of our parish, encouraging
"separated" souls to return to
the church and securing auxiliary or "praying"
Legion members.
St. Ann Sodality
The purpose of membership in the St. Ann
Sodality is spiritual and apostolic. Members
gather the first Sunday of the month at 9:00
am Mass. A meeting is held afterwards. Members
of the Sodality help in taking care of the
altar and sacristy, contribute funds to charitable
endeavors and participate in many parish
activities. An annual Christmas party is
held at which time past presidents are honored.
The St. Ann Sodality observed its 50th birthday
as a parish organization in 1981.
SOCIAL AND SERVICE GROUPS
Men's Club
The main objectives of the Men's Club are
to spread Christian fellowship among the
men of the parish and to support sports programs
in our parish. . The Men's Club holds dances,
fish fries and basket picnics to further
the objectives of the organization. A nominal
amount is asked for dues annually.
Women's Club
The Women's Club belongs to every lady in
the parish. The object of this organization
is to form a more intimate bond of friendship
between all women, the church, the school,
and community. Some of the club's main events
include, a Christmas party, fund raising
dances.. The Women's Club also sponsors the
Girl Scouts, staffs booths at the parish
picnic and provides room mothers for the
children in school.
St. Vincent De Paul Society
The Resurrection Conference of the St. Vincent
de Paul Society was established to relieve
the spiritual and corporal miseries of those
in want. No work of charity is regarded as
foreign to the Society. However, its special
objective is to assist the needy in the parish.
The needs of the distressed families are
determined by visits to their homes. Help
may consist of donations of food and/or clothing,
payment of utilities, rent supplements, medical
and dental assistance, or possibly transportation.
Parish Help
Resurrection Parish Help, beginning its 16th
year of service to the parish and community
in September 1995, maintains a full volunteer
office staff on Monday, Wednesday and Friday
of each week in the rectory basement.
Over the years, Parish Help has provided
and organized delivery for holiday dinners
for the homebound and infirm, hosted a neighborly
First Saturday monthly coffee Coffees during
Lent, set up a system for occasional visits
to homebound individuals, furnished and hosted
funeral lunches, staffed the kitchen on Picnic
Day, provided rides to folks within parish
boundaries, , and operated a food pantry
and utility assistance office. Funds for
all our endeavors, particularly the last
two, have been very generously donated by
parishoners.
