September 2002 Newsletter Something to Think About
WHERE WERE YOU WHEN THE WORLD STOPPED TURNING ON THIS SEPTEMBER 11TH
. ![]()
Brothers Knights,
The year has been filled with many challenges. With the cleanup of the streets of New York, to the rebuilding of many lives. I look back to see what difference have I made since then, or what changes have I done to help.
Just when you think everything is returning to normal, another devastating blow hits when you least expect it, with the sudden and unexpected death of our chaplain, Brother Ed. This death took everyone by surprise and shoes that he has left empty will be difficult ones to fill. While grieving for Brother Ed, another very active member of our council, Jim McDonnell, was called away to help Brother Ed maintain the garden in Heaven.
As I sat and watched all the television coverage of the anniversary of 9/11, I have re-confirmed just how precious life is. It is now time to move forward and continue to help others benefit from what we, the Knights of Columbus family can contribute to the community and those in need.
With this thought in mind, let us all look to the future and see where we fit in the picture. I would like to challenge my Brother Knights to step up to the plate and contribute as much time as possible to the annual MR Tootsie Roll Drive scheduled for October 11, 12 and 13. This event has become a great success in the past and I would like to see this function continue to grow but the only way it CAN grow is with the support of all members.
This event only comes once a year and a few members dedicate the entire weekend to this worthy cause. To lighten your load, consider recruiting family members and friends or neighbors to assist.
If for some reason you cannot assist on this important weekend, a monetary donation and prayers for a safe and successful MR Drive are always appreciated. REMEMBER that all proceeds from this event go to charity.
Kudos to all persons that have assisted in the great success of the Bingo events. The workers have had to put forth extra effort for many weeks and I personally know how difficult and trying this can be. I sincerely appreciate each and every volunteer’s effort.
Fraternally,
Tom Feltmann
