We, the people of Servants of Christ the King, are a Spirit-filled parish family, desiring to worship the Lord and build up His Church using all the gifts, or charisms, that the Holy Spirit is pouring out in out day.
We are a prayerful people, hungry for God and seeking holiness through out joyful worship of God and our committed and loving service to each other and our neighbor.
As faithful Catholics, we seek the Lord and receive His blessings through our rich sacramental life and through the wisdom and guidance of our pastors.
Established as a fellowship parish in 1980 to provide parish life for Servants of Christ the King Covenant Community, the parish was initially pastored by the Franciscan friars and met at the Franciscan University of Steubenville Chapel. In 1991, the fellowship parish was reorganized with Msgr. Roger J. Foys as pastor and Fr. Kevin Greenwood as parochial vicar. The parish began worshipping at St. Joseph's Church in Toronto, Ohio, and in 1997 changed the worship location to Holy Name Cathedral in downtown Steubenville. In 1993, Bishop Sheldon declared Servants of Christ the King an open parish welcoming any Catholic desiring to join us.
Despite the many changes and challenges we have experienced, we have maintained a vibrant worship of God, our commitment to love one another and our aspiration to be saints.
Our parish life is continually shaped and challenged by the life of the early church as "they devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to the communal life, to the breaking of the bread and the prayers" (Acts 2:42). This early community celebrated their life together "with exultant and sincere hearts...praising God and winning the approval of all the people" (Acts 2:46-47).
Based on our present vision of parish life, we have hopes and expectations as God leads us forward on our journey:
This is our vision, but we desire above all to receive and respond to His Word, as He continues to speak to us and guide us through the Holy Spirit poured forth upon His Church.
