Sacred Heart Church
A Parish on Track Book
| Sacred Heart Church, a parish on track was written by Janice Wedl, O.S.B. It gives the history of Sacred Heart Church in Staples, Mn. from back in the 1870's. Father Ignatius Tomazin, who was then the pastor of Wadena came and ministered to some of the people in Staples Mills. He would come every three or four months to celebrate mass for them. In April of 1890 he held a meeting at which time it was determined that a parish be formed and called St Ignatius Parish. |
|
The actual and valid incorporation of the parish came in 1895 with Articles of Incorporations signed by Bishop Martin Marty, president, Father Joseph Bauer. The parish was then incorporated under the name of "The Church of the Sacred Heart of Staples, Minnesota". A parish census was taken in 1896 reported a membership of approximately one hundred families. Our parish has produced 7 nuns and 2 priests over the years, of which our present pastor Father Lauren is one of them. |
