Our Mission Statement

We, Anya Hamilton and Kate Crichton, believe that the function of the Church is to lead all people of the parish to form their own relationship with God. As youth representatives on the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC), we will encourage the full integration of young people into the parish community. In order to do this, we propose the following:

  1. We will do our best to represent all young people in the parish from birth to early twenties, while paying particular attention to age groups whose needs are greatest.
  2. We will contribute as fully as we can to all aspects of the PPC meetings, while always ensuring that the youth point of view is represented.
  3. We will not attempt to supply a programme of entertainment for young people, but will aim to become a central 'post box' to receive and pass on ideas. In this way we will be a catalyst for the growth of the Parish's next generation.
  4. To facilitate input, we will set up an ideas box in the Church, which we will check regularly. We will also welcome all input given to us personally or via the Church office or staff.
  5. We will compile a list of people in the parish who would be willing to help with certain activities or events. Volunteers will not be expected to make permanent or long-term commitments, but may be asked to help on an ad hoc basis.
  6. We recognise the strong and beautiful tradition in our Church of events aimed specifically at younger age groups, for example the Nativity play, Saturday catechism classes, Easter events, children's liturgy, Taize services and annual family barbeque, as well as events organised by Tollcross Churches Together. We will work alongside these and will encourage attendance by all our young people.
  7. Similarly we will encourage the integration of our young people in all parish groups and events.
  8. From time to time we will take steps to contact young people directly and seek their views on events they would like to see in the parish and on activities already taking place.
  9. From time to time we will organise specific events (see below).
  10. We will report on progress via the PPC, parish newsletter, youth newsletter and Website as appropriate.

We will attempt to make everything we organise either no-cost or low-cost. To do this we hope to make use of the skills and talents available within the parish, some of which has been revealed in the recent Parish questionnaire.
