- APSE
- Large semi circular recess, arched or dome-roofed
- BALUSTER
- Short pillar with curving outline; post supporting a rail
- CHANCEL
- Part of the church near the altar; reserved for clergy, ministers and choir; usually enclosed.
- NARTHEX
- Railed-off western porch*. In early Christian times, area used by catechuments and penitents.
- NAVE
- Main body of church from (usually) the West end to the Chancel.
- PEDIMENT
- Triangular part crowning the front of the building in Grecian style, especially over the portico.
- PILASTER
- Rectangular column, especiall one engaged into the wall.
- SANCTUARY
- Part of the Chancel between the altar rails (if they exist) and the East window or the rear wall; area containing the high altar.
- SWAG
- Moulded festoon of flowers, etc; decorative feature in a frieze.
- ENTABLATURE
- Area above columns or pilasters that include frieze, cornice, architrave.

* Traditionally a church is built on a East-West axis: altar is at the East, entrance is at the West end. Because of the lie of the land, our church is on the reverse axis: entrance at East, altar at the West.
