St. Vincent dePaul Society Logo ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul was founded in 183 by Frederic Ozanam, a 20-year-old student of the Sorbonne University in Paris. He and fellow students visited the poor of Paris, taking them bread and clothes, friendship and concern. They took as their patron the French Priest, St. Vincent de Paul, who alerted the world to social problems. Similar groups began in the rest of France and eventually spread throughout the Christian world.

We have a very active St. Vincent de Paul Society, which assists those in need through emergency aid for shelter, transportation, utility bills, etc., a Food and Clothing Bank, and holiday sharing baskets. They have a prison ministry coordinated by Deacon Andy Espinoza. Our conference opened a retail store in 1960 where they sell donated clothes, furniture, household items, books and lots of other interesting items.

The work of the Society is aided by individual contributions, a special collection taken at all Masses on the 2nd Sunday of each month, and income from our local store. Both your donation of useable items and your patronage are appreciated. Volunteers are always welcome.

SERRA CLUB OF THE TRI-CITIES
In 1935 a small group of people in Seattle decided to form an organization to promote and foster vocations to the priesthood and religious life. They chose Fr. Junipero Serra as their patron, a Franciscan missionary to Mexico and California in the 18th century. Fr. Serra was beatified in September 1988.

Today Serra has 732 Clubs in 35 countries with over 22,000 members. The objectives of the Serra Club are:

  • To foster and promote vocations to the ministerial priesthood and to develop appreciation of the priesthood and of all religious vocations in the church;
  • To further Catholicism by encouraging the members to fulfill their Christian vocations to service.

The Serra Club of the Tri-Cities will be officially chartered on October 17, 2000, with 44 members from Christ the King, Holy Spirit, St. Joseph, St. Patrick and St. Paul parishes.

As Serrans we pray for and encourage vocations to the priesthood and religious life. We meet for First Saturday Mass each month at one of our parishes, followed by a continental breakfast meeting. We also meet on the 3rd. Tuesday of the month for a dinner meeting featuring a guest speaker to contribute to the education and spiritual growth of our members.

Come join Serra and answer God's call for more workers to gather the harvest.

TRI-COUNTY PARTNERS HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
"Eliminating poverty housing in partnership with God's people in need."

Habitat for Humanity International was founded in 1976 by Linda and Midard Fuller as a non-profit, ecumenical, Christian ministry. It seeks to eliminate poverty housing and to make decent shelter a matter of love and action. Habitat builds and rehabilitates housing, creating a sense of community and helps break the cycle of poverty by having needy and affluent people work together in equal partnership. Using volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat provides affordable, decent home ownership to low-income families. Partner families are able to purchase a home with a no-interest mortgage. They also provide sweat equity hours in the construction or rehabilitation of their home. Several parishioners have benefited from the Habitat housing program and many parishioners are active volunteers.

Volunteers are always needed. Workdays are 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM EVERY Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
