Getting to know your Pastor…

My name is Miguel Angel Mejía Díaz. I was born on February 9^th of 1974 in Toluca, Mexico. My parents are Hortencia and Sergio Mejia. I am the oldest of three brothers and two sisters.

I started my priestly studies when I was fourteen at my home diocese’s seminary. In 1994 I moved to Washington state and joined Bishop White Seminary at Gonzaga University where I got my ESL and philosophy degree. After finishing my philosophical studies, I went to Belgium to study theology at the American College of Louvain. While studying in Belgium, I took summer classes in Paris and Jerusalem.

On December 4^th of 1999 Bishop William S. Skylstad ordained me and my best friend (Fr. José Luis Millán) deacons for the diocese of Spokane at the American College of Louvain. On August 11^th of the next year Bishop Skylstad ordained us to the priesthood in Spokane.

My first assignment as a priest started on September 1^st, 2000 at St. Patrick’s Church in Pasco. As you well know, St. Patrick’s is the largest parish in the diocese; thus, I shared responsibilities with the Pastor, Msgr. Ramirez, and with the other Associate, Fr. Dan Barnett.

On November 15^th, 2001 Bishop Skylstad appointed me as the Priest of three little parishes in Pomeroy, Dayton and Waitsburg.

I am very happy to be now part of the community of Sacred Heart Church in Othello. I know it has been hard and sad for most of you to see Fr. Tim go. He is a good man; and we wish him the best in Walla Walla. However, you well know this is the way the Catholic Church works. The only thing I would like to ask you is to be open to me. Please, do not expect me to do things in the same way Fr. Tim did. We, both, may do things in different ways, but both of us bring good things for you.

I am an honest person who likes a lot what he does. I love being a priest and helping people in any way possible. Even though I am a shy person, I like to be around people and be friendly.

I am really happy to be here with you. I pray that God may bless us all always.

Conociendo a tu Párroco...

Mi nombre es Miguel Angel Mejía Díaz. Nací el día 9 de Febrero de 1974 en Toluca, México. Mis padres son Hortencia y Sergio Mejía. Soy el mayor de tres hermanos y dos hermanas.

Comencé mis estudios para el sacerdocio en el seminario de mi diócesis, Toluca, cuando tenía 14 años. En 1994 vine a los Estados Unidos para entrar al Seminario de Bishop White y la universidad de Gonzaga en Spokane. Ahí aprendí un poco de Inglés y terminé mis estudios de filosofía. Después que terminé mis estudios filosóficos en Spokane fui al Seminario Americano en Lovaina, Bélgica para estudiar Teología. Cuando estaba estudiando en Bélgica tomé cursos en París y Jesuralén.

El día 4 de Diciembre de 1999 el Obispo William S. Skylstad ordenó a mi mejor amigo (José Luis Millán) y a mi como diáconos para la diócesis de Spokane en Bélgica. El 11 de Agosto del siguiente año el Obispo Skylstad nos ordenó sacerdotes en Spokane.

Mi primer ministerio como sacerdote comenzó el día primero de Septiembre del 2000 en San Patricio en Pasco. Como bien saben ustedes San Patricio es la parroquia más grande de la diócesis. En ese tiempo compartí responsabilidades con el párroco Msgr. Ramírez y con el otro vicario, el padre Dan Barnett.

El día 15 de Noviembre del 2001 el Obispo Skylstad me pidió ser el sacerdote de tres pequeñas comunidades en Pomeroy, Dayton y Waitsburg.

Estoy muy contento ahora de pertenecer a esta comunidad del Sagrado Corazón en Othello. Yo sé que ha sido duro y triste para muchos de ustedes ver que el Padre Tim se ha ido. El es una persona muy buena y le deseamos que le vaya de lo mejor en Walla Walla. La única cosa que me gustaría pedirles es que estén abiertos al ministerio que yo les ofrezco. Por favor no esperen que yo haga las cosas de la misma manera que las hacía el padre Tim. Los dos tal vez hacemos las cosas diferente, pero los dos tenemos muchas cosas buenas que ofrecerles.

Yo soy una persona honesta quien adora lo que hace. Me encanta ser un sacerdote y ayudar a las personas en cualquier manera posible. Aunque soy una persona muy --- me gusta estar rodeado de personas para platicar, orar, convivir, jugar, etc.

Estoy muy contento de estar aquí con ustedes. Le pido a Dios que nos bendiga siempre.
