Our Young People

Rainbows, Brownies & Guides

Rainbows for girls aged five to seven meet on Monday afternoons from 4.15 p.m. for games, making things, singing songs, and lots more. They began in September 1999.

We have a thriving Brownie Pack at St Augustine’s, which meets at 6.00 on Monday evenings in the Meeting Room. Brownies follow a programme of activities geared to having fun, learning, and helping those around us. The number of Brownies at any one time has to be limited.

Starting from January 1999, our parish now has our own Guide Company for girls aged 10-14. Meetings are on Wednesday evenings from 7.00-8.30 in the Meeting Room.

Beavers, Cubs & Scouts

Our parish Beaver Scout Colony is open to children aged 6 and 7; they meet on Thursday afternoons from 4.150 in the parish hall. Our parish Cub Scout Pack is open to children aged 8 - 10, and meets on Thursday evenings from 6.00. Our Scout Troop is open to children aged 10 - 14, and meets on Thursday evenuings from 8.00. By our sponsorship agreement with the District Scout Executive, membership is restricted to children who regularly worship at St Augustine's Church.

Youth Groups

Our parish groups for young people at secondary school were set up in November 1996 after our first youth trip to Thorpe Park. The group meet fortnightly in the Parish Hall after the Sunday evening Mass, from 6.45-8.15.  Besides these evening youth groups, special events are organised each term - an annual trip to Thorpe Park or Chessington, outings for karting, abseiling and high ropes, bowling, and much more besides. See the notice board in the porch, and the special leaflets, for details, and keep an eye on the newsletter each Sunday.

Youth

Trip

At St Augustine’s, our young people at secondary school are a vital part of our parish community. We would like you to be as involved as possible - and you are always warmly welcome! There are nearly 200 teenagers at Mass at St Augustine’s every Sunday. There is no greater challenge to any young person than to be a real Catholic Christian, but you will not be alone if you try!

Need to Talk ?

There are times when young people really need someone to talk to about a problem or things they’re thinking about: someone outside of your family, someone who you know will say nothing about it to anyone else and think nothing less of you whatever you have to say. The priests are always available for you. Never hesitate to ask. Come alone, or with a friend, or as a group. Just ask. We are always here for you.
