Recent projects sponsored by the Association
One of the primary aims of the Association is to offer financial support to the seminary and the students, particularly with regard to those projects which are of benefit to the students and which cannot be funded from normal sources.
Such projects are proposed at the AGM by either the Rector or the Dean of Students (the elected student representative) and approved by a vote of the members present.
In recent years, some of the projects undertaken have been:
- Redecoration of students' TV room
- Refurbishment of furniture in students' common room
- Football team: trip to Poland for international seminary competition
- Football: Goal posts and strip
- Adaptation of the clock in the chapel tower
The last item needs a few words of explanation. Over the years, many of the students have been keen to maintain this clock, which rings a bell in the chapel tower. In days past, it was an arduous job for one of the students to climb the tower and wind the clock on a weekly basis. Installation of a control mechanism at ground level will eliminate the hazards previously associated with this task!
Apart from inviting donations direct to the Dean's Fund (see our page on the annual St John's Association Day), a vote is always taken at the AGM to donate a sum to the Dean's Fund, from the funds of the Association.
