Education for Parish Service

In 1989 Education for Parish Service, a charitable company limited by guarantee and under the auspices of the Archdioceses of Westminster and Southwark, established a lay formation programme to enable the laity to work more effectively in their parish and community.

Today, more than ever before, the Church recognises the positive contribution that the laity can make to their local parish and wants to encourage them to fulfill their potential. EPS exists to help this to happen by:

V     deepening the laity's understanding of the Catholic Faith and relating it to their experience of "Living the Gospel"

V     the course creates an environment in which those preparing for a variety of ministries in their parish can grow through shared prayer and exploration of the life and mission of the Church

Over 170 adults have completed the Diploma in Pastoral Theology which now forms the basis for the Bachelor of Theology degree.

Who are the courses for?

EPS students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and circumstances and range in age from 20 to 80.

The course is principally for the laity, and attracts members of religious congregations as well, who may wish to take time out from pressures of their daily lives and use the structured environment to renew their faith and experience a new burst of spiritual growth.

For the laity and religious alike, EPS offers:

V     education for adult faith

V     development of theological maturity

V     training in pastoral skills

V     preparations for parish work
