Bachelor of Theology DegreeIn 2002 Education for Parish Service entered into partnership with University of Wales, Lampeter and now offers a Bachelor of Theology Degree. UWL was established in 1822 and has a fine academic reputation, particularly in theological studies.Structure of the courseThe course has been devised to give a balance between theological reflection and the development of pastoral skills. In each of the modules links are made between what is being learnt and the reality of contemporary pastoral situations. Level 1 modulesLevel one will encompass the following topics and will consist of 120 credits.
The aim of these modules is to encourage the student to reflect theologically about their subject and to express understanding with clarity. Particular modules depend on availability. Level 2 and 3 modules24 modules each of 10 credits must be completed. ScriptureThese modules include the Synoptic Gospels. The letters of St Paul and the Gospel of St John, together with the opportunity to build on and deepen the understanding of the Old and New Testament gained in the previous year. Modules are regularly revised and updated. The choice of modules depends on availability. Teaching ArrangementsThe full time course is delivered on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 11am and 3pm. Each four hour day is split into two 1.5 hour sessions, with an hour for lunch and worship. There are 3 terms in each year. Each term is 10 weeks long, with half term reading week. Study ArrangementsStudents need to be able to study independently. Students are able to utilise the national "Library Plus" scheme and obtain books from designated universities. AssessmentAssessments are in accordance with the University of Wales, Lampter requirements. These requirements include essays for each module of 3000 words, or assessed work appropriate to the module. Students who reach the required standard may be entitled to complete their degree by submitting a dissertation. Entry RequirementMature students can be individually assessed and those whose previous qualifications and experience satisfy the University will proceed directly to level two. FeesThe registration fee, paid at the beginning of the course is £30. The fees for the current year are £1000. Communities and parishes may offer some financial support to students to actively engaged in lay ministry.
