Caring for Older Parishioners

Who are our older parishioners?

Many retired people are, of course, leading very active lives. Some retired parishioners are themselves caring for the elderly, looking after sick or handicapped relatives or are in demand to look after grandchildren, or are active in charitable work. Some are giving many hours of their time each week to help in the day-to-day running of the church.

In addition to Mass on Sundays, many retired parishioners find renewed strength and vitality through participating in one of the daily Masses at St Anselm's, where they also experience a sense of belonging to a loving community.

The Senior Parishioner's Social Group

The Group meets at Christchurch Hall, Cross Road, from 2 to 4 pm on the third Wednesday of every month. A short business meeting is followed by entertainment - a talk, music, a quiz, sometimes tea in the garden. Details of the programme are usually on the Notice Board in the Church Narthex.

The Group arranges Keep-Fit classes (on Mondays), country walks, day and half-day excursions, local get-togethers, and an annual dinner-dance, open to members and their friends. There is always someone to give lifts to members who do not drive. A week's holiday in Holme Lacey has proved popular.
