Talking point
The Catholic goal of Christian Unity is that we all share in celebrating the one Eucharist and receive the one Holy Communion. This is our ultimate aim in this octave of prayer. To get there, we can see what we have in common, partly on doctrine, but also, and perhaps more, on shared values and responses to needs in our society. This can be part of the new evangelisation, showing how 'Christians love each other', and also other people too.
The Desert Father, St Anthony, was asked to comment on the Emperor Constantine honouring him with a personal letter, and the saint responded, 'how much more astonishing that God should have written to us and spoken to us through his Son'. That is the good news that we want to share or to reawaken through the new evangelisation. |
