History:

In 1890, Esteban Sedillo was given land in Tijeras Canyon east of present-day Tijeras.  He and his family moved there soon afterward and the area was named for them.  The village’s rock San Isidro Labrador Church was built in 1941 by the people of Sedillo on property donated by Jacobo Baca.  It replaced a small, older church which was located on the same property where the cemetery remains today.  That land had been given to the church by Jacobo Baca’s mother, Paz Baca y Lopez.  While the exact date the first church was built is not known, it has been traced back to the early 1920s.  The community celebrates San Isidro’s May 15 fiesta and also celebrates a fiesta for Santa Anna and Santiago in July.
