Holy Child Parish a lively parish because of people like you, sharing of your time and talent.  With your participation, and with God’s blessings, we become the glory of the Lord revealed through human hands.

Please look through the following activities. After some prayerful consideration, contact Deacon José at 281-7794 to ask for more information or to volunteer some of your time. You are needed to build the kingdom of God with your brothers and sisters in this parish!

Adult Formation:  Adult Formation sessions are held for the purpose of updating and enhancing our Catholic faith.  Speakers present information for discussion in person or on video tape, about such topics as the Bible, the new Catechism and common questions concerning the Catholic faith.  Check the bulletin for upcoming sessions.  Contact:  John or Terry Rasinski, 281-5855

Alcoholics Anonymous:  This group assists members who have the desire to stop drinking.  They meet on Sundays at 7:00 p.m. for one hour in the San José Hall.  Contact:  Flint Taylor, 281-0398 or 281-0396

Carnuel Women's Guild:  This group is engaged in fund-raising activities and works to assist with repair and maintenance of the church in Carnuel.  They assist the community with needs such as food baskets, and plan to expand their services in the future.  New members are invited.  Contact:  Alvita Garcia, 293-2933

Good Shepherd Center:  The Brothers of the Good Shepherd provide direct services for the homeless that meet the basic needs of clothing, food, shelter and extended services for clients seeking employment, health care, and sobriety from drug and/or alcohol dependency.  Volunteers are needed to serve meals or to perform a variety of other work at the Center.  The Center is located at 218 Iron St. SW in Albuquerque (phone 243-2527).    Contact:  Maria Duran, 292-8389

Knights of Columbus:  The Knights of Columbus is a men’s fraternal organization whose families are encouraged to become involved in council activities, which include monthly potlucks.  Their programs involve assisting our parish with support activities, fundraising efforts for worthwhile community projects, assisting our bishop with special project, and supporting our parish youth in some of their activities.  Contact:   Garry Vollbrecht at 299-1014.

Mayordomos:  Mayordomos are selected to care for our Mission Churches as if they were their own homes by cleaning and maintaining the building and grounds, preparing the church for services, holding fiestas and whatever other activities may be needed for improvement of their particular church community.  Mayordomos are selected based on long-standing and faithful participation in the parish.  Contact:  Individual church mayordomos or the Parish Office, 281-2297

Project Life, Inc.:  Project Life is a non-profit organization started in the 1980s by Brother Mathias (founder of the Good Shepherd Center and the Barrett Home for unwed mothers).  This ministry is devoted to offering pregnant women help and alternatives to abortion.  Come pray with Brother Philip Leahy at the abortuary, or volunteer to be "a helper of God's precious infants" in some other way.  You can make a difference!  Contact:  Sherry Dib at 286-1655 or Paula Simon at 323-6667.

*For free Natural Family Planning classes, call Project Life members Marc and Cheryl Hallada at 293-5201.  This method is endorsed by the Pontifical Council and is highly effective in avoiding and achieving pregnancies.

Religious Education:  The Religious Education program provides religious instruction for children of all ages, including sacramental preparation for Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Confirmation.  Volunteer teachers are always needed.  Contact:  K - 6th grade:  Connie Rogers, 281-2297; 7th - high school:  Amy Smith, 281-2297

Respect Life:  This ministry is an outreach program sponsored by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops.  The goal of Respect Life is to educate people about the sanctity of life from conception to natural death.  Meetings are held in the San José Hall on the third Wednesday of each month at 12:30 p.m.  Contact:  Cheryl Sholtis, 281-2297

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA): The RCIA is (1) the process for bringing unbaptized adults into the Catholic Church, (2) for those who were baptized as infants but have had little or no religious formation, (3) for those who are coming from other faith experiences, and (4) for active Catholics 18 years and older who need to complete their Sacraments of Initiation (Eucharist and/or Confirmation). Additionally, "returning Catholics" are welcome to attend. Meetings are held once per week for 1-1/2 to 2 hours. Sponsors are needed to attend meetings with inquirers and to support them through their faith journey.  Contact: Deacon John or Terry Rasinski, 281-5855

Rosary and Altar Society:  The members of this ministry assist in cleaning, decorating and preparing the mother church of Tijeras for Mass.  They conduct fund-raising activities to purchase linens, vestments and other items for the church.  Men and women parishioners are welcome to join.  Meetings are held the first Saturday of each month at 3:00 p.m. in San José Hall.  Contact:  Lena Mumme, 281-5680

San Antonito Women's Guild:  This group performs similar work as the Rosary and Altar Society for the church in San Antonito.  Upon request, they also provide prayer, food and visits to ill or hospitalized parishioners.  Contact:  Mary Ellen Ratzer, 281-8586

St. Vincent de Paul Society:  The Society assists people in need with food, clothing, rent, utilities and other necessities.  Referrals may be made through the Parish Office.  The Society welcomes volunteers, contributors and more members.  Contact:  John Melendez (President), 281-0369 or Carol Griego (Treasurer), 281-2852

Liturgical Ministries:

Eucharistic Ministers assist the priest and deacon by distributing the Eucharist at Mass, and to homebound or hospitalized parishioners.  Contact:  Training:  Deacon José, 281-7794; Scheduling: Deacon John Rasinski, 281-5855.

Lectors proclaim the Word of God at Mass. Contact:  Training:  Deacon José, 281-7794; Scheduling:  Deacon John Rasinski, 281-5855.

Altar Servers assist the priest at Mass.  Contact:  Training and Scheduling:  Deacon José, 281-7794 

Ushers greet, seat and assist worshipers with any needs during Mass.  Contact:  Deacon José, 281-7794

Choir enhance worship with instruments and singing.  Contact:  Cayetano Herrera, 281-5762
