Church events and activities at the parish

Each month, Father Tom Hamilton brings us
news of events, activities and special occasions at St. Gabriel's
parish.
Here is this month's letter.
May 22, 2011
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
On May 30, 1942 a local newspaper reported the following:
In Nineteen Hundred and Forty, His Excellency the Most Reverend Archbishop, witnessing the still further growth of this District, purchased Property at Fortieth Avenue and Ulloa Street for another addition to the long line of churches serving our City; and on June 28, 1941, established this new parish under the patronage of St. Gabriel.
... The plan of the church, modified Spanish in architecture, is a simple rectangle forming the nave approached through a pair of wrought iron studded doors and a spacious narthex having a red Spanish tile floor with decorative inserts. On Sunday, May 31, 1942, the new church will be dedicated to the Service of Almighty God.
Our parish community marks our 70th anniversary this year-and we celebrate this anniversary with profound gratitude: with gratitude to God for the blessings of these 70 years-with gratitude as well for the priests, religious, and dedicated parishioners who have contributed mightily to the birth of the Kingdom of God here in our neighborhood. We offer our prayer of gratitude for all that God is accomplishing in this moment of grace, all the ways in which we are called to bear witness to the transforming power of the Resurrection in our day-to-day activities and ministries. And we glorify God with grateful hearts for all that the Lord will accomplish in our life as a community of faith in the days and years ahead.
May God bless us, protect us from all evil, and bring us to the fullness of life everlasting.
AMEN.
In Christ's love and peace,
Father Tom Hamilton
Pastor
