St. Gabriel Young Adults
We, as Young Adults of Crossroads, gather
together to create community with common bonds in Christ. We
hope to achieve this through spiritual, social and community service
activities. In the sharing of our faith and concerns we will
define and embody our roles in the Catholic community.
Crossroads was formed in 1988 in recognition of the unique situation
which Bay Area young adults found themselves experiencing…a
situation where they wanted to be part of a centuries-old tradition
with faith based values, when they didn't necessarily fit a centuries
old profile; and in a situation where they wanted to be part of
a community when they weren't necessarily from the area, and didn't
have ready entree.
Since its inception, Crossroads has continued to evolve. It began
with people in their early 20's, but now is composed primarily
of people in their 20's, 30's and 40's from all over the Bay Area.
The activities which Crossroads sponsors have similarly been
evolving from an early emphasis on social and outdoor events,
to now include an equal emphasis on more spiritual events such
as retreats and small faith sharing groups. One constant has
always been the young adult mass. This mass and other activities
are described below:
Young Adult Mass - held every Sunday at 5:30pm mass in
the Church.
Fall and Spring Retreats - a chance to get away, relax
and explore real life issues…a good way to get to know Crossroads
members better and feel much more a part of the community.
Spiritual Enrichment Groups - these groups of 8-10 people
each, meet weekly to discuss faith related issues and share the
joys, challenges and struggles that faith brings. At this point
in time, the small groups meet weekly for an 8-week sessions.
Socials - on special holidays or just because, we gather
after 5:30 mass to enjoy one another and celebrate. Events have
included: barbecues, a Christmas Party, a Valentine's Party, parish
events, and others.
Volleyball - will be returning to its rightful place on
our calendar. It is scheduled for the first Sunday of the month,
each month.
Happy Hour - we gather once a month on a Friday afternoon
to blow off the steam of our week. The location varies but it
always leads to fellowship, friendship and discussion and
it often leads to dinner or a night on the town with other
Crossroads members.
