HURRICANE KATRINA!! HOW CAN YOU HELP? by Cursillista Barry La Forgia

International Relief Teams (IRT), in partnership with UCSD Medical Center,
has sponsored a 30 person specialized medical team (DMAT) that left on
Saturday night (Aug 27) to Texas, pre-positioned to LSU campus yesterday
morning (Aug 30), and traveled last night to the New Orleans airport where
the team is now providing emergency medical services for evacuees and others
being rescued from shelters and buildings within the city.

IRT will also be sending additional medical personnel as necessary.
Construction volunteers will be sent into the affected areas after the
waters recede and homeowners return, to help low income homeowners w/o
insurance repair/rebuild.  Because of the extensive poverty in the region,
this will be a massive effort that will go on for many years!!

Cash donations to support IRT's disaster relief efforts for the victims of
Hurricane Katrina can be sent to: International Relief Teams, 3547 Camino
del Rio South, Suite C, San Diego, CA 92108 or online at IRT's secure
website: www.irteams.org . International Relief Teams has earned a 4-star
rating (the highest level) from the Charity Navigator, America's largest
charity evaluator ( www.charityNavigator.org ).
Volunteers (skilled and unskilled) wishing to help with relief and
reconstruction efforts should call IRT's office at 619-284-7979.

A MESSAGE FROM CURSILLISTA RICK MELROSE

DeColores!
I am thrilled to send this wonderful note along with my personal thanks to
each and every Cursillista for their prayers and most especially for the
generosity of the wonderful donor.  I hope that each Cursillista will take
just a few seconds to read this entire note from Monsignor Lechner.   His
personal generosity, support and commitment to Higher Values for Youth
demonstrates a continuing need to help our needy brothers and sisters.   I
thank you and each and every Cursillista.  You are remembered in my prayers.

In His Service

Rick Melrose

*****

From Msgr. Lechner

Dear Rick - DeColores,
I wish to thank the Cursillo Movement, through you, for their assistance in
helping a single mother have her two children attend Our Lady of the Sacred
Heart School this year. A Cursillo family has promised $1,500.00 for this
cause - if the funds were matched. Higher Values for Youth today matched
this amount and the remainder of the tuition needs for this family.

Higher Values for Youth was established several years ago to assist our
Catholic and Christian families to attend a Catholic or Christian school of
education. We help in the area of Cathedral Deanery of the Diocese of San
Diego. Since our elementary school was closed, we have seen the need to help
other parishes and schools with their needs. We have one fund raiser a year,
usually in May, to accept funds for this cause. Higher Values has assisted
St. Didacus school, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart school, Blessed Sacrament
school, St. Rita's school, St. Jude Academy, Lutheran High School of San
Diego, Nativity Prep Academy (for inner city youth), Saint Augustine High.
Scholarships have been given to Catholic High School students in the San
Diego area - Saints, Marian, Our Lady of Peace and University High (now
Cathedral Catholic).

Higher Values for Youth serves the Cathedral Deanery youth. The Deanery
parishes serve in the poorest "per-captia economically speaking area" of the
Diocese of San Diego.
The students who achieve in our very good schools are encouraged to go onto
higher education at a Catholic or Christian school.

We have honored our teachers in our elementary parish schools with gifts and
financial assistance over the years. We usually honor an outstanding person
at our annual dinner. We have given out over $30,000.00 in the past years
for the needs of our mission to assist our Catholic Christian schools.

Jim Martinez, of San Diego National Bank, assists Higher Values by
coordinating fund raising efforts mainly through our annual dinner to raise
funds - usually in May.   highervalues_foryouth@hotmail .com

I invite Cursillo of San Diego to know about this effort and to seek its
financial support to achieve it's goals.
Msgr. Roger Lechner - Holy Spirit Parish.

A MESSAGE FROM CURSILLISTA CHRIS TOZZI

Dear Friends,

I just wanted to send you a very short note letting you know that I'll be
leaving tomorrow for Canada.  A number of you called and/or e-mailed in the
last day or so to express your support and I was not able to reconnect with
you.  Your well wishes were/are very much appreciated.

I have been frantically trying to get ready to travel and at 8:10 PM I still
have to pack.

I wanted to take a minute though to tell you that you'll be in my prayers
and
that I look forward to catching up with you all during Advent.

Till then, God Bless...

Chris

A MESSAGE FROM CURSILLISTAS SEAN QUIGLEY

To All My Catholic Friends,
It is with great enthusiasm that I want to introduce you all to a rapidly
growing Order of Dominican Sisters named The Sisters of Mary, Mother of the
Eucharist out of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
As you can see, by their name alone, these Sisters have a strong devotion to
our Blessed Mother and the Holy Eucharist. Their days are filled with
prayer, including Holy Mass, Rosaries, Eucharistic Adoration, and daily
Consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. They are holy Sisters with a
vocation to teach children in Catholic schools around the country. They are
truly a God-given blessing and a miracle at a time when they are so greatly
needed.

I am writing this letter from Bend, Oregon, where our family attended a
Catholic "Family Camp" and four of the Sisters of Mary, Mother of the
Eucharist came to lead our children in prayer, music, and religious
education classes. They even played soccer with the kids in their religious
habits which they wear no matter what activities they are involved in. They
had a joy about them that was infectious and it was felt by all the families
that attended.
There was a very special moment during the weekend, when a young lady came
into the "mess hall" and sat down next to Sister Joseph Andrew across the
table from me. She whispered something in her ear and then sat back with a
big smile on her face. Sister Joseph Andrew took a short gasp of breath and
then lit up with excitement with the news that this young woman had decided
to enter the convent. She had driven six hours with her mother to bring the
news to Sister Joseph Andrew in person. It was truly a memorable moment and
what a blessing to see the beginning of this young woman's journey of
serving our Lord.
In just eight short years, the Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist have
sixty-four Sisters and the number of new vocations is growing rapidly. They
are extremely orthodox, which is what is so appealing to the young women
entering the convent. They truly love the Lord and they are extremely humble
and obedient to the teachings of the Catholic Church.
They have just sent seventeen Sisters down to New Orleans to help teach in
the schools hit by Katrina.
The reason I am writing you this letter is to appeal to you all to help them
build a third wing on to their convent in Ann Arbor, Michigan. They are
bursting at the seams and are severely under-funded at this time. They
desperately need $25 Million dollars to make that next step and we need to
help them. Please visit their web-site to learn more about them at
www.sistersofmary.org .
So, all I need you to do is help me in raising some fast cash for the
Sisters and I came up with a plan to get it done quickly. We are going to
call it the "Give me five" Drive. The plan is as follows:

1. Each person that receives this e-mail makes a tax-deductible donation of
five dollars and quickly puts it in an envelope and sends it directly to the
Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist. If you can not afford it at this
time, send them a letter of encouragement and offer up five Hail Mary's for
the future of their ministry.

2. Pass this e-mail on to every Catholic friend that you know around the
country so this gets into all 50 States as quickly as possible.

3. We will try to reach 5 million Catholics in the next thirty days in order
to make our goal of $25 Million Dollars!

4. I will ask the Sisters to keep a list of all the people that made
donations and offered prayers for them so that I can report back to all of
you that we made our goal and how many States participated.

5. 100% of the money will go directly to the Sisters by doing it this way.

Please send your offerings to: Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the
Eucharist
4597 Warren Rd.
Ann Arbor, Michigan 48105

Thank you so much for your help and prayers. I am sealing my envelope this
minute to send to the Sisters.
Please join me by doing the same and let's keep the "Give me five" Drive
Alive!

Your Friend in Christ,
Sean Quigley

P.S.: Use this opportunity to have your children pray for the Sisters of
Mary, Mother of the Eucharist in their mission and, who knows, we may
inspire new vocations along the way.
