HURRICANE KATRINA!! HOW CAN YOU HELP? by Cursillista Barry La Forgia

International Relief Teams (IRT), in partnership with UCSD Medical Center,
has sponsored a 30 person specialized medical team (DMAT) that left on
Saturday night (Aug 27) to Texas, pre-positioned to LSU campus yesterday
morning (Aug 30), and traveled last night to the New Orleans airport where
the team is now providing emergency medical services for evacuees and others
being rescued from shelters and buildings within the city.

IRT will also be sending additional medical personnel as necessary.
Construction volunteers will be sent into the affected areas after the
waters recede and homeowners return, to help low income homeowners w/o
insurance repair/rebuild.  Because of the extensive poverty in the region,
this will be a massive effort that will go on for many years!!

Cash donations to support IRT's disaster relief efforts for the victims of
Hurricane Katrina can be sent to: International Relief Teams, 3547 Camino
del Rio South, Suite C, San Diego, CA 92108 or online at IRT's secure
website: www.irteams.org . International Relief Teams has earned a 4-star
rating (the highest level) from the Charity Navigator, America's largest
charity evaluator ( www.charityNavigator.org ).
Volunteers (skilled and unskilled) wishing to help with relief and
reconstruction efforts should call IRT's office at 619-284-7979.

the Holy Spirit.  For our Cursillo discussion we will be studying a book on
the Charisma of the Cursillo movement.  Some of the chapter topics are
Freedom, Love, Friendship, Conviction, Sincerity and Joy just to name a few.

PRAYER REQUEST

Please take a few minutes to pray for the following........

BENEDICTUS - "A MINISTRY TO CATHOLIC MEN"

Saturday September 10th, 2005  (8:00 - 10:30am) Lawrence Welk

"But I want you to know that Christ is the head of every man, and a husband
the head of his wife, and God the head of Christ."  1 Corinthians 11:3

Featured Speaker: Cursillista Mike Daniels

Scripture: Romans 8:18 “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth
comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”

What do Saints, Sinners, and Strugglers have in common – Mike Daniels –
because Mike struggles like all of us on our path to holiness. We fight the
good fight each day to keep on the Lord's path while engaged in the real
world. And when we fall down we get up again and keep trying just as the
Saints did.

Mike's passion is kids, especially kids in tough situations. He has helped
found a school for homeless kids, The Monarch School, and helps support
Toussaint Teen Center at St. Vincent de Paul and Nativity Prep Academy. Mike
believes the great problem facing the Catholic Church is an inability to
instill a passion for the mission of the church in the hearts of practicing
Catholics.

Come let Mike instill that passion, through the Holy Spirit, in you and
motivate you to be “part of the solution, not part of the problem.” With the
support of his family, wife Linda, son Luke and three daughters Devin, Mary
& Regin, Mike is fully engaged in the Deaconate program in San Diego. He
strives to be a good example of commitment and states “I love this Church
and I desperately want to share that love with others.”

Saturday September 10th, 2005  (8:00 - 10:30am) Lawrence Welk
8860 Lawrence Welk Drive Escondido, CA

Breakfast is provided at 8:30am
Mass available 7:00am all are welcome

PRAYER REQUEST

Please take a few minutes to pray for the following........

*****

Please pray for Melissa Ashbacher, Larry Ashbacher's daughter, who is in the
hospital in Missouri with kidney failure.
Thanks, Jim House.

*****

I ask prayers for our Cursillista Ashley Rabun and her husband Dan Graney
who two years ago moved to Mobile, Alabama to be near her aged parents.
They have had to board up their windows 4 times already and now, with
Katrina, their home is flooded with over five feet of water!  They are
devastated!
Thank you, Linda Daniels

*****

Please add my sister Mary Lynn Porter to the list.  She has lung cancer that
has spread to her liver.
Thank you.
Annie Evans

*****

Just an update on the progress of Zach Weinstein (paralyzed in a diving
accident): his neck brace is off and he's regaining some of the feeling in
his hands and he can move his forearms.  Thank you, Cursillo community, for
your powerful prayers, and please keep them coming!
Kathy MacCarthy

A MESSAGE FROM CURSILLISTA TIM FOLEY

My name is Tim Foley, I made my Cursillo this last spring at Whispering
Winds. It was an amazing experience that brought me
into a greater understanding of my faith and myself. So forgive me for using
this sincere communications base for personal
gain. My band Skelpin has been nominated for a San Diego Music Award in the
category of Best World Music. It is a people's choice
award and the only way we will win is if people go online to vote for us. If
possible can you send out word to all the Cursillistas to
vote for a fellow brother.
The website is:

http://sdmusicawards.com /Ballot2005.shtml

The band is Skelpin
The category is best world music.

God Bless,
Tim

A MESSAGE FROM CURSILLISTA ELIZABETH FROM ST. BRIGID'S

Proposition 73

This November, the state with the most abortions -- California -- will have
a ballot initiative called "Proposition 73," which is a parental
notification act. Voters will be able to decide on this measure, which would
require abortionists to notify a minor (under 18) patient's parent(s) of her
scheduled abortion 48 hours before the appointment. If there is a case of
abuse, incest, or medical emergency, this measure allows for a judge to
grant an exception to the need to notify a parent.

Now is the time to urge all California residents to prepare to vote "Yes" on
Proposition 73, to inform their families, friends, and Churches about it,
and to volunteer their time and energy to see to it that it passes.  Helpful
websites include www.parentsright2know.org and www.caparentsrights.org .
Right now polling shows a fairly close divide among California residents
about this initiative.

Everyone's help can make a difference.

Most people see how reasonable these measures are, however, when they
reflect on a few facts. To quote from caparentsrights.org ,

"- A minor cannot be issued an aspirin at school without parental consent.
- Minors cannot go on field trips without parental notification and consent.
- Minors cannot be sentenced to death because they have poor or
underdeveloped judgment, but they can unilaterally decide to have an
abortion.
- Minors cannot drink, get tattoos, pierce their bodies, smoke, or serve in
the military without parental consent.
- Parents will be held responsible for any costs or complications stemming
from their minor daughter's abortion."
