My brother, Tom Drabek, has just been diagnosed with a rare bone disease.
He has a lesion in his skull above his left eye which is near his optic
nerve and another facial nerve. He is being further evaluated this week by 4
additional specialists. His main symptom is pain which he has had for
several years and which other doctors called "sinus headaches". Tom's case
will be presented to 30 doctors Friday, July 21, with the goal of
determining the best treatment plan for him.
Please pray that the lesion stops growing, Tom's pain is relieved, and for
the guidance of the doctors who will be trying to determine the best
treatment plan for him.
Thank you for your prayers!
God bless!

A Message From Malawi...
Hello Everyone,
On behalf of our group of 11 in Malawi, Africa, I send note through our
friend, Lynn, to let you all know we are doing well. We keep you all in
prayer and ask for prayers, as well. This country is beautiful- the people,
the land, the culture. The need is great, as well, though. I am so glad we
are here to learn and experience so we can come back and share with you! We
have visited about 18 missions. Some of our group are in route, returning
home and a few of us are still here, staying with the
Conossian sisters- they are wonderful and do so much for so many people-
from orphans to students, sick to hungry. I thought of St. Brigid yesterday
as I sat in the last row in Mass behind these women, so different from us
(some barefoot, carrying babies on their back, dancing to the music), yet so
similar (praising our God and coming together in community). They asked for
our help (they don't see foreigners very often) when we return to America,
to please send money to be able to
expand their parish.
We (the group and the missionaries) are very grateful to all of you who
have supported this mission by contributing. We have a check for each of
these places and they can do so much with our help! Our group has also
been so generous. We have been very blessed with this trip and growing in
our faith. Thanks for listening! I look forward to coming home in a
couple of weeks.
Mulungu Akudalitseni (May God Bless You Please)

SIXTH ANNUAL
Servants of the 11th Hour
of St. John Eudes
Fiesta Grande
& Silent Auction
At Rancho Bernardo Inn
This event supports Mother Antonia and her newly founded Servants of the
11th Hour of St. John Eudes. Choosing to live and serve the past 29 years
at the La Mesa Penitentiary in Tijuana, Mother Antonia established this
religious order of mature women to care for those with dire needs; including
men in prison, their families and the terminally ill.
Mother Antonia also operates Casa Campos de San Miguel, a home to greet
women freed from prison and help them to get started again. It also cares
for women and children undergoing cancer treatment, and all of those in need
that God sends to their door.
Proceeds from the event will specifically go towards purchasing a new
building to house her growing community.
Being committed to her mission, Mother Antonia does not actively fundraise.
As a community, we are called to support her efforts.
Join Mother Antonia, Friday, September 8 at 7:00 pm for the
Fiesta Grande and Silent Auction
Featuring a full Mexican Fiesta buffet and dancing.
Entry to this wonderful event is just $50 a person.
Please RSVP to Claudia Moran at (619) 575-9162
If you give to one cause this summer, please consider "Servants of the 11th

BOB MURPHY MEMORIES
*****
Sent by Tim Penick
When those awful e-mails arrived which carried with them the news that our
dear brother would, quite unbelievably, join the list of the faithfully
departed, I instinctively reached for my BMB cd, so I could relieve my sense
of loss and hear his voice again. It was a tear drenched commute-a lovely
musical melancholy as my mind sadly set about the task of assembling the
hundreds of memories of Bob into that file of things that can't be
experienced again.
Some years back, Bob, Jim House and I used to travel to Escondido together
to meet Ken Finn for Benedictus planning meetings. Ken was just getting it
started, and we were among those who were tasked with helping him do so.
For me, it was a wondrous, holy time, a time of giants, a time of endless,
eternal opportunities. Faith was new, life was new, marriage was new.
As fate would have it, Bob and his wife Anna were splitting, and Bob's pain
was intense. That she was leaving was unfathomable for this 30-something
idealist. "This is BOB MURPHY, you gotta be kidding me." Towards the end
of our meeting, Bob said he was working on a new song-inspired by the ache
of his marital dissolution-a song so familiar to me now, but so red and raw
that night.
Lord, I just
I can't hang with you
No, it's not
It's not because
I don't want to
But Lord I'm weak
And You know all my pain
You've gotta lift me up
Help me live again
But I can't see You now
Still I believe
You're here somehow
I was peering right into his soul. I desperately wanted to turn away, to
have him cover back up, and yet there was so much beauty. He was
transparent, naked in unbearable pain, and yet there it was-grace abounding,
haunting, throbbing poetry expressing an inexpressible anguish.
Bob did mourning well. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be
comforted. Bob did trial and suffering and cross well. If anyone would
come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. As
one friend said, he carried with him the grace of sadness. Bob ran to what
most of us run from.
Then there's 'ol song number 9:
Mommy, God has a plan just for me
I know right now you can't believe it
Right now it's so hard for you to see
You're hurt, confused, alone, deserted
You're being pressured to decide
FOR ME
It's life and death, oh Mommy
You know you hold my life inside you
I'm not sure I'll ever get used to the fact that I'll never again witness
him deliver that magnificent song. Where have you ever experienced more
simple pathos than this song? How could you hit the bull's-eye any more
dead center? This song could carry the abortion debate all by itself.
Bob used to come to our youth group for a special pro-life night every year.
He'd wear a tie with the knot several times larger than what was
fashionable. He'd display this increasingly fragile Life magazine spread on
fetal development. Do you remember those? They were pitiful in condition
but undeniable in their visual proclamation of human life in the earliest
stages of pregnancy. Did you ever see him make the case? It was a sight to
behold, I'll tell you. What I wouldn't give to see it just one-more-time.
Though I was always delighted in Bob's presence, the kid's reaction to his
pro-life argumentation was mixed. Some bought, some didn't, like any group
of folks, until, that is, he sang the song. I loved the sense of
anticipatory confidence in me and in the teens who were veterans of the
experience. No matter how much the uninitiated resisted the cogent points
Bob made, I knew what they didn't: they would have to face. . .the song.
Finally the time would arrive and the green Taylor would start to play.
Some would cry, some would blanch, all would have their mental furniture
rearranged. And when it was over, I'd ask with a thinly disguised sense of
triumph, "Any more questions?" Seven years, no questions. Bob would
politely exit, the night would come to a dramatic end, and the pro-life poll
numbers would improve if ever so slightly.

As a Cursillista from the men's Cursillo #230 of August, 2003, I too was
touched by the music of Bob Murphy. Though I did purchase other spiritual
material at the conclusion of my Cursillo, I didn't pick up a CD of Bob
Murphy and "BMB."
I was wondering if Bob's music through, which he shared his deep love of the
Lord, is still available . If it is, when convenient, would you please let
me know how or where I could obtain recordings of his joyous music?
Thank you for taking the time to read this e-mail and I'm hopeful there is a
way to again hear the "BMB" on a CD.
DeColores and God bless,
Peter Maxwell
