PRAYER REQUEST

Please take a few minutes to pray for the following........

*****

UPDATE: Linda Jolliff's Aunt Pat

I have an update. Not the update I wanted to give, but we are continuing
to have faith that The Holy Spirit will take care of everything. The
Dr's had to stop the surgery, they were 80% complete, my aunt became
unstable after 10 hours on the table. Her blood pressure and breathing
went "south" as the Dr. put it. They do not know what caused it, they
just knew they had to close and try to stabilize her. Once they find out
why she became unstable (they suspect a blood clot) then they will know
when they can proceed, maybe even up to two weeks from now. They want
her to remain on the ventilator and they are trying to wake her, if she
can't tolerate the breathing tube then they will sedate her. I know with
all the prayers that The Lord has a plan, but in the meantime I am so
very frightened for her. Thank you for your support, it means the world
to my family and me.
Love,
Linda Jolliff

UPDATE
Please keep Ed (Bear) Psota's son, Ed Psota Jr, in your prayers. He
developed dizziness while serving with the US Army in Iraq. To date they
have not been able to determine the cause of his condition. He was
shipped from Iraq to Germany and then to the US for tests. Please keep
Ed and the Psota family in your prayers.

Dear Cursillistas:

I attended my Cursillo Weekend in Erie PA and had relocated to San Diego
a short while ago, and have been having a very difficult time adjusting
in many ways.

I was living with a person and it is currently not working out and I
have to find a new place to stay which I am finding a scary proposition.
I found a job that pays okay and has benefits and have been taking
classes online, and if I go back to Erie right at this point in time, I
feel like I will lose the momentum for my career.

Please pray that I find an affordable place to live.

SENT BY LETICIA MENDOZA

I am working with a young woman, 16 years old. who plans to place her
baby for adoption.    "Paula" lives in Palm Springs area with her mom.
She wants to come to San Diego to live with a family for a short time.
She's due the second week of July so it would be for a very short period
of time.  Extended family doesn't know of the pregnancy so they are
hoping she can be away for a few weeks.  Her mom works long hours and is
a fair distance from her home so she's worried about getting her to the
hospital.  She also would like to be here so she can have the benefit of
our support and counseling.

Martha and Mary is not available so I'm hoping that one of you might
know someone who has a heart for her and would support her through this
time.  She is a really bright girl.  She's mature, calm, she wouldn't be
a problem for anyone.  Please pray about this and if you or anyone you
know is interested/available, please have them call me right
away.................thanks,

ANOTHER MESSAGE FROM DEACON MIKE DANIELS

Tim Foley a candidate on my weekend # 238 (you'll remember him as the
PALANCA man) is trying to live out his Cursillo call to "action" by
taking a missionary trip to Africa.

Tim grew up in Pacific Beach and attended UNI High School, class of 95.
For many years he helped out as a youth minister in The Gathering Youth
Ministry in La Jolla. He is currently leading the music ministry at
Sacred Heart Parish in Ocean Beach for the Sunday evening service.  For
the last 6 years he has been teaching in Catholic Schools in our
diocese. He taught at St Augustine High School and St Charles Borromeo
Elementary in Point Loma, and is currently the Director of Liturgical
Music at Cathedral Catholic High School and works in the Campus Ministry
Department there.

He is going on a mission trip to Africa to witness the devastation
caused by AIDS and genocide. His team will be visiting orphanages and
refugee camps in South Africa and Zambia to offer some relief and share
the love of God with those who are suffering.

He told me that he is very excited to experience what God has in store
for him in Africa. Tim has always been involved in working with kids in
some degree or another, so I know how much impact he will have at the
orphanages with the innocent victims of disease and genocide. Imagine
for a second what those kids will experience when they hear him play his
Irish bagpipes!  This is a life changing experience for Tim that he will
bring back and share with the youth of San Diego.  Can we help this
wonderful teacher and man of faith?  If a few of us can drop $20 or $50
or $100 or $200 in the mail he will have enough to make the trip.

Donations can be sent to:

Tim Foley
5178 Edgeworth Road
San Diego, CA 92109

Thanks so much!
DeColores
Deacon Mike

A MESSAGE FROM KATHERINE BARLEY

Through Love & Mercy Coalition, Mary Dawn Reavey, a certified nurse
practitioner who was called to mission as a member of San Diego's St.
Brigid Catholic Church has been nourishing and healing the bodies, minds
and souls of the children of Tegeta, Tanzania, East Africa as a
volunteer for over 3 years.  Through her tireless effort, hard work,
dogged determination and deep faith, Mary Dawn has personally witnessed
God's Love and Mercy working miracles in the lives of those she serves.

Manyoni High Risk Education Program
Teaming up with Father Mapinduzi, a Missionary of the Precious Blood
Fathers (CPPS), Mary Dawn and Love & Mercy Coalition (LMC) set up a
program for uneducated street children who survived by begging.  They
opened arms and hearts to 29 children  providing  meals, health care,
clothing and education in a respectful Christian environment that uses
non physical discipline.  The children ages 9-14 are taught following a
special curriculum that will allow them to finish primary school in
three years to catch up with their peers attending traditional school.

Personal Outreach and Advocacy
Many needy children and adults come to LMC for help with complex
problems.  Mary Dawn may contact other organizations seeking assistance
for treatment that is not offered in Tanzania or at other times, LMC may
step in to fix a problem by assisting with a school transfer allowing a
child to continue his education.  Currently four children have received
open heart surgery in Sudan with the help of International Children's
Heart Foundation and one child has received surgery for a brain tumor in
Uganda with the help of Cure Children's Hospital Uganda.  LMC donors
contribute prayers, expertise, frequent flyer miles, housing, and
treatment.

CFCA Sponsorship Program
Mary Dawn teamed up with the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging
(CFCA) to foster relationships and share gifts between families who are
reaching out across the world in love, friendship and solidarity.
Sponsors contribute monthly to meet the needs of their sponsored child
through a personalized sponsorship plan which may include school fees,
healthcare, tutoring, school supplies, uniforms, formation, nutritional
support, clothing and help to the family. Currently over 550 children
are sponsored in Tegeta, and an additional 350 are waiting for
sponsorship.

Emmanuel Bible Story Hour
An opportunity for all children to learn about the love and mercy of God
through bible stories, songs and skits and where they can also ask
questions and express their feelings and views related to faith.
Although Christian based, the children are taught respect for all faith
practices and tolerance for differing views/opinions. This group
provides structure, support and positive attention for children teaching
them values of sharing, concern, compassion, acceptance and cooperation
by creating a firm, nurturing and loving environment where all are
welcome.  The service also provides each child a cup of super mix uji
made with milk.  Approximately 400 children attend each weekday from 5-6
pm.

LMC Companion Group
The LMC Companions is a group of teenagers from several faith
backgrounds that evolved from the Emmanuel Bible Story Group.  Their
mission is to encourage concern and compassion for their brothers and
sisters in need and to develop interest in service within the community.
Participation is open to all adolescents age 11-18 who are committed to
bettering themselves through positive behavior, leadership qualities,
education, and service. Involvement in the group is voluntary and the
individual teenager must attend certain activities and sessions in order
to maintain membership.  These youths serve as monitors and 'set-up' and
'clean-up' helpers for the Bible Story Hour each weekday afternoon.
Every 6-8 weeks the group takes a field trip that focuses on a service
and/or growth component such as attending a mass to celebrate the life
and service of Pope John Paul II and mini retreats.  Each outing
includes a formation/sharing component where the group reviews what they
have learned and experienced.

Intensive Day Therapy Program
Loving care and life saving antiretroviral therapy and vitamins, five
meals a day, personal hygiene, skin care, tutoring and accompanying the
15 children to doctor appointments fill Mary Dawns days.  She and her
team care for their "kiddos" 13 hours a day while also encouraging
involvement of extended family members.  Mary Dawn works each child's
treatment program around their full-time school schedule at the project
site or in the community.  The children sleep at home and are escorted
to the project each day by a relative.

Bibi (Grandma) Hulburt Education Center
When Pat (grandma) Hulburt of St. Brigid learned of the work that Mary
Dawn was doing with the children of Tegeta she asked  everyone coming to
her 80th birthday party to bring a donation for the children instead of
buying a gift for her.  That gesture provided the seed money to
construct the educational center which also provides safe, well-lighted
study areas until 10:00 PM., a preschool program, an accelerated primary
school program and a morning and evening secondary school program that
caters to students who do not have school fees and must work to sustain
their daily needs.  The program is in the process of developing a new
class called "Life Skills" a requirement for all students that focuses
on values and ethics, accountability,  health and nutrition topics with
and emphasis on HIV/AIDs, small business skills, communication and
conflict resolution.  Over 1200 children receive full time educational
assistance in the program daily  while an additional 500 children attend
part time.  LMC also provided 100 community service based scholarships
in 2007 to assist needy students and their families with school fees at
the registered school of their choice.

What Can you Do?
12 cents to treat a child for malaria
$2.70 to provide a mosquito net
21 cents to provide antibiotics to treat an ear infection
70 cents for bus fare for child and parent to get to clinic to test for
HIV
$5.85 for 10 kg maize flour and 5kg of beans to feed family of 4 for 1
month
$4.62 to provide pair of school shoes
$3.46 to provide mandatory primary school uniform
$2.16 to provide 10 exercise books, 2 pens and 2 pencils for a student
$3.85 average price of secondary school textbook for education center
$27 provides chalk for a month to teach 1,200 students in the education
center
$5.87 provides 400 children a cup of "super mix" uji  at Bible Story
Group
$115 provides an LMC scholarship that will pay school fees for a student
to attend secondary school for a year.

LMC Wish List
Currently, LMC staff must walk miles daily when doing home visits, often
in temperatures exceeding 100 degrees.  A motorized Rickshaw would make
home visits and other project work less time consuming allowing more
children to be served.
A quality  Microscope would aid in quick and accurate diagnosis and
decrease treatment costs.

A MESSAGE FROM SUSAN LUDWIG

My Dear Friends,
Last weekend Dick and I attended his (40th!) class reunion (four days)
at Notre Dame in South Bend, IN.  I only wish I could have taken our
Cursillo community along.  Amidst the renewal of friendships, processing
across campus to the banquet accompanied by bagpipers, attending mass in
the Basilica, and walking around St. Joseph lake, was also the
opportunity to attend some outstanding seminars prepared for the almost
4000 alumni.  One in particular aligned the Seven Habits of Effective
People with the Beatitudes - very stimulating.  The presenter was the
vivacious Kathleen Sullivan, Ph.D.  In April, Kathleen spearheaded a new
website for Notre Dame students and friends:   http://pray.nd.edu/
< http://pray.nd.edu/ >    which Dick and I have each made our homepage
and which I feel compelled to share with others.  Developed with
assistance from students in theology and sacred music departments, it
includes live video and music of scenes/statuary on campus, daily
homily, FREE podcast weekly, and opportunity to submit prayer intentions
which are read at the grotto (inspired by Lourdes) with candles lit each
Thursday afternoon.  Whether or not you are Irish or an ND fan, I'm sure
you'll enjoy this interactive site.

The motto has always been "God, country, Notre Dame."  While we've
returned to campus several times (mostly for football games), I thought
we had left Notre Dame behind after Dick's graduation, but the sense of
family, the tradition and serenity of the campus were very touching.
Thank heaven for the values we've come to appreciate!  We look forward
(gulp!) to being a part of the 50 year 'domers' reunion.

ps  Did you see us on TV?  The Hallmark channel televises mass from the
Notre Dame Basilica (built 1868) each Sunday morning.

Go Irish!

Hugs, Susan

Love deeply...laugh often...pray faithfully

WHISPERING WINDS

Dear Friends of Whispering Winds,

Happy Father's Day!

Let us pray for those fathers who have striven to balance the demands of
work, marriage, and children with an honest awareness of both joy and
sacrifice. Let us pray for those fathers who, lacking an earthly model
for fatherhood, have still worked to become a good father. Let us pray
for those fathers who by their own account were not always there for
their children, but who continue to offer those children, now grown,
their love and support. Let us pray for those fathers who have been
wounded by the neglect and hostility of their children. Let us pray for
those fathers who, despite divorce, have remained in their children's
lives. Let us pray for those fathers whose children are adopted, and
whose love and support has offered healing. Let us pray for those
fathers who, as stepfathers, freely choose the obligation of fatherhood
and earned their stepchildren's love and respect. Let us pray for those
fathers who have lost a child to death, and continue to hold the child
in their heart. Let us pray for those men who have no children, but
cherish the next generation as if they were their own. Let us pray for
those men who have "fathered" us in their role as mentors and guides.
Let us pray for all priests whom God calls to be Father to the sheep of
the flock. Let us pray for those men who are about to become fathers;
may they openly delight in their children. Let us pray for those fathers
who have died, who live on in our memory, and whose love continues to
nurture us.

Father God, Abba, we thank You for Your example of Divine Fatherhood and
the opportunity to love You through our earthly fathers!

Family Camp Time Warp? Groovy!

We launched our 2007 Love Will Keep Us Together Family Camp on Memorial
Day weekend - highlights included a full house (pictured below), lots of
quality bonding time, new friends, inspiration for every day family
life, and fantastic music by the Whispy Chix! Special thanks to Jen
Bedison and her team for an incredible weekend, and to Paula Bott and
her team for their hard work writing the program. We are blessed to have
so much talent involved in our organization!

The remaining Family Camp weekends are nearly sold out! Click here for
more information about Family Camp or to print up a registration form.

Are You Registered for Kids Camp?

It's filling quickly, but we still have space for your child! Lately,
we've had a lot of inquiries from first-time campers. If your son or
daughter is interested, but a little nervous about his or her first time
away from home, consider inviting a friend or two to come along as well!
Late registration begins tomorrow, June 16, but we will waive late
registration fees for you, our constituents, and any newcomers you bring
into the Whispering Winds family. Click here for more information about
Kids Camp or to print up a registration form.

Our first Kids Camp for this summer is three weeks away! Our ministry
team leaders, Joyce Mendez of Most Precious Blood, Jane Alfano of St.
Luke, Rebecca Hall-Jimenez of Holy Trinity, and Roger Brault of Our Lady
of Grace, and their youth and young adult team members are ready to pour
their passion and enthusiasm into the summer. If you would like to
contribute yours as well and minister to children this summer, we are
looking for young (and young at heart!) adults to support these teams.
Please call our office at (619) 464-1479.

Prayer Requests

Blessing of Graduates

Before you were even formed, God knew you. While in your Mother's womb,
God named you. At your birth, God's breath filled you with life. Today
we celebrate what you have become at this moment in time. And so we
pray, God of our beginnings, ee thank you for the gifts of these
graduates; their excitement, their awesome wonder and curiosity; their
open speech and encouraging words. Their contributions have blessed and
challenged us, and we have become a richer and more diverse community
because of them.

As they step forward into the world that awaits, comfort their fears
with the full knowledge of your divine presence. Strengthen their
resolve to walk in the footsteps of Jesus as modern-day disciples in a
world that needs their spirit. Guide their feet as they move through
life, protecting them from the pitfalls of darkness while they help to
lead future generations into the warmth and promise of your light.

We ask this blessing upon each of them in the name of the Father, the
Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Amen

On the feast of the Sacred Heart:

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, pour out Your benedictions upon the Holy
Church, upon its priests, and upon all its children. Sustain the just,
convert the sinners, assist the dying, deliver the souls in purgatory,
and extend over all hearts the sweet empire of Your love.

Amen

Ad majorem Dei gloriam,

MARY STATUE PROJECT by George Anderson

If you have visited the Grotto recently, you know that the present Mary
statue has deteriorated so badly that it is beyond repair and must be
replaced.

Beverly Paddleford is a pro-life Christian artist. Peggy and I were
privileged to meet Beverly and to view some of her reverent work.

Recall the presentation of Jesus in the Temple. "Then Simeon blessed
them and said to Mary, his mother: "This child is destined to cause the
falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be
spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed.
And a sword will pierce your own soul too."  Luke 2:33-35

In Beverly's rendering of this new work, the crown of thorns clutched to
Mary's breast represents that sword piercing her soul. We can sense in
her gentle presence both her suffering and her calming serenity.  In a
loving gesture, Our Mother Mary extends an outstretched arm welcoming
each of us to come spend time with her in prayer and meditation.

Our goal is to have this compelling bronze sculpture of Mary placed in
a new garden setting in the Grotto. But we need your help.  We must
raise $38,000 to commission the work and have it shipped from Wyoming to
Julian.  So the question is this: will you give your support to help
fund this worthy project? We invite you to pray about this effort before
making your donation.

Donations are tax deductible and will be acknowledged by letter. Checks
should be made to Whispering Winds, (Mary Statue), c/o Susann Wilhite,
Cursillo Treasurer, 1177 Hacienda Dr., El Cajon CA 92020.

The life-size statue will be cast in bronze with subtle patina coloring
and will be weather suitable as an outdoor memorial in a newly designed
Grotto setting. Seen here is the clay model of the intended statue.

Everyone who attends a Cursillo Weekend, a parish retreat for families
or teens, or other camp activities will surely be blessed by the
presence of this beautiful and reverent statue of our Blessed Mother
placed in a new prayer Grotto setting as a gift to the camp from our
Cursillo Community.

JOB OPPORTUNITY by Jean Freeman

OFFICE ASSISTANT NEEDED

Chris is looking for someone who can help him at his job.  He is a
professional engineer and a quadriplegic who needs someone to "be his
hands" at work.  The assistant would help him get to work, set up his
desk, check messages and take notes for him in meetings.  Once he is
set-up in the office he is able to do many things independently.   There
is some down time during the day  for this position, so it is a great
job for someone who needs to study or likes to read quietly and get paid
at the same time.  Although it could be an 8 hour day or more with
overtime,  Chris is also very flexible so if someone would rather work
only 4-6 hour day, that may work too.  Again, he is pretty flexible. You
could take all 5 days or if only 2 or 3 days a week are available,
that's fine too.

The key thing is that Chris needs someone to help him to get to work
everyday and get him set up at his work station.  He can't go to work
until someone else shows up and takes him to work.

The two people who currently help Chris are both leaving on June 14.
One finishes school and is leaving for the summer and the other person
has small children who are getting out of school and she wants to be
home with them.

He is a great person to work with and has a phenomenal attitude.

Please contact Chris at 858-483-5673 or email him at cfree@san.rr.com
directly for more information.

Here is Chris' ad below:
