Spiritual Advisor - Deacon Ken Finn

Fr. Anthony Saroki is the oldest of six children born to Chaldean Catholic immigrants from Iraq. He was raised and schooled in San Diego and studied at Georgetown University. He attended law school and after two years of practicing business litigation for a large law firm in San Diego, God made it clear that he had another vocation in mind for Anthony, to serve God and the Church as a priest. Anthony responded to that call. He was ordained a priest in 2005.

Fr. Saroki currently serves as the director of the Office for Vocations. His excitement about his own vocation is contagious. He openly confesses having drifted away from God during high school and his early college years. Although he had forgotten God, God did not forget him, and led him back to a living faith that formed the foundation for a later call to the priesthood. Come and hear how Fr. Saroki surrendered to God and the Church.

His favorite scripture is: "Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you besides". (Mt. 6:33)

UPDATE

Baby Myles, born May 24, with two tears in his lungs had another forward day. He had one chest tube removed, is off the vibrating ventilator and on a regular ventilator. The ventilator is breathing 12 breaths a minute, he is doing the rest! He is off most meds, too. They anticipate 3 days on the ventilator, then see how he does on his own. Huge progress! We are so thankful to everyone for your concern and prayers.

May 2007 Liam Update

Liam and Nancy are in Seattle again this week (May 9 – May 12). Three surgeries in four days… Endoscopy and possible Trans Jugular TIPPS Shunt Revision Thursday, coiling of several sever varicies in Liam's abdomen (esophagus and stomach) on Friday and finally a surgery to embolize Liam's spleen. Yes, we are now working on spleen issues. The emblemizing of the spleen is the procedure that has us most concern at the moment and the only one of the three that is a first for Liam. As we understand it Liam's spleen is now failing and causing additional complications. The team has decided to "immobilize" Liam's spleen so it doesn't continue to deteriorate and then reverse this procedure after his liver transplant. As many of you know people can have there spleens removed and live normal and health lives, but as one would guess, Liam's case is much more complicated. Removing Liam's spleen would make him ineligible to receive a liver transplant.

Liam has been struggling the last few months and has been on IV antibiotics 45 of the past 60 days but continues to remain confident and completely at peace, that in time, all will work out. Total surrender and confidence after already being through so much? What a great life lesson we can learn from this amazing young man.

Liam's prayer this morning was that the surgeons "operate with care". At Liam's request we ask you to join us in this prayer.

Once again, thank you for your continued prayers and well wishes. We are confident that Liam would not be doing as well as he is without the love and support he receives from you, his community.

You and your families are in our prayers.

The Hearne Family

June 2, 2007 Fundraiser:

For those of you that can make it or feel called to help battle this relentless disease financially, A quick plug for our fund raising efforts and annual fundraiser, The Summer Solstice Wiffle Ball Tournament. Our event is only three (3) weeks out, Saturday June 2, 2007. Because of everything going on with Liam's care the invitations are late getting out this year but should be in the mail by Monday May 14th. If you don't receive your invitation by Thursday please e-mail us and we will confirm your address. For additional information you can visit our web site at LiamFoundation.com.

WEB SITE: LiamFoundation.com

The web site will be up and running on May 16, 2007…honest! The home page is already working. We hope that many of you will be willing and able to communicate with Liam through the web site. The following will be added to the blog.

March 28, 2007 Wednesday

The Bubble echo was done and has determined that the pulmonary complexity due to liver disease is not a factor for Liam yet. This is good and bad; good, because we don't want Liam to have more struggles than he already has, but bad, because this might have been an element that the doctors could have used to get Liam more points on the transplant list.

Liam is now on room air – no oxygen and he is also up to his full g-tube feeds without neausea. (yeah!)

Seattle Doctors have given us the green light to go home, understanding that Liam will be on home IV therapy for a total of 2 weeks (11 more days). There seems to be a slight glitch from the Kaiser Transplant coordinators end – rather than get into it, just know that we ARE on top of it!

After speaking with Dr. Watanabe, or transplant specialist at Kaiser LA, the process of getting Liam home is a little more complicated. He needs to speak with Dr. Morell to get her to agree to take over Liam's care upon our return. I did share with him that Dr. Wojtczak is handling Liam's CF care through Kaiser and if he can not reach Dr. Morell, he will call Dr. Wojtczak tomorrow. In the meantime, at least Liam is comfortable J

March 27, 2007 Tuesday

Today we met Dr. Christy – the GI Chief of the Department. So nice to meet the man that I have heard so much about. He is pleased with Liam's progress and has made a couple of recommendations regarding his continuing care:

He likes the idea of coiling the varicose veins from the shunt site rather than banding the varices from above. This will offer better long term control of the veins in his esophageous

We will make a few modifications to the medications: Omeprazole 40 mg 2x/day (to help with reflux), Reglan up to 25 mg am and 20 pm (to help with gastric emptying); Zofran to help Liam with his occasional neausea.

Liam is in a little bit better mood today. His cough has calmed down somewhat an he is able to sleep. Thee plan as of right now is to hold tight for a couple of days to make sure that Liam is stable enough to go home.

Good things to know: The shunt is working with adequate flow and the echo does not show evidence of lung disease secondary to the liver. The doc's may want to repeat as a "bubble echo" later.
