UPDATE

I wanted to update you on my brother Jim who has been serving in Iraq, he
is, as I type this in a debriefing in Baltimore and will be home (Washington
State) by tomorrow. I would like to thank the Cursillo community for their
prayers for his safe return. Also, if I can be so bold, I would greatly
appreciate continued prayers for my brother's mental health, ironically that
is his field, he was in Balad which has the busiest ER in the world, when he
wasn't called into the ER he was in his office with wall to wall patients in
his waiting room, he dealt with Iraqi civilians as well as our Armed Forces
to deal with devastating loss of a loved ones life or limb. His prior
deployment took quite a toll on him and it was almost a year before he was
back to his old self. This time however I believe has been much harder on
him and his family and coupled with the fact that this former
Eucharistic/Youth minister has lost his faith when he went through his
higher education, he doesn't have the strength of our Lord to rely on, you
and I know He is there, but Jim doesn't. Thank you again for prayers for
Jim's safe return. It would be a dream come true for my brother to find Our
Lord again.

Your Sister in Christ,
Linda Jolliff

Cursillista Andy  Lock suffered a heart attack yesterday evening at the
beach. He survived it, thank the Lord!, but is not out of the woods yet.  He
is in the ICU at Scripps La Jolla, sedated and intubated to assist him with
his breathing. He apparently has a very sick heart that needs repair. Three
of his heart vessels are very narrowed. They were able to open up one of the
more important ones that feed his heart muscle. He has a lot of healing to
do still.  Please keep him in your prayers for his quick recovery.

A group of parishioners from St. Brigid's Catholic Church in San Diego,

group is sponsoring an "African Nights" event on June 2, 2006 at 6:00 p.m.

will feature authentic African cuisine, a silent auction and live

A MESSAGE FROM ERIKA JOHNSON - Malawi Mission

An opportunity to make a world of difference!

A group of St. Brigid parishioners are going to visit Malawi and Nigeria,
Africa in June and July.  I am one of them.  We are going to visit more than
sixteen different organizations including hospitals, orphanages, half-way
houses, and schools.  I am excited to be able to help these people
monetarily, as well as live in and learn about their culture.  I know their
needs are great (poverty, health, social issues) and we are committed to
helping these various organizations that exist to help their > people learn
a trade, have food and live a healthier life.  We've been given so much and
there is so much need.  How can we help?

We are raising big money to make a big difference to as many of these 16
organizations as possible.  We are having a fundraiser on June 2, 2006 at
6:00pm at the World Beat Center in Balboa Park with dinner, auction, African
entertainment, and an opportunity to learn more about Africa.  And if you
can join in the fun, please see the website to buy your tickets. Feel free
to invite co-workers, friends and family  The website is
http://www.stbrigid-sandiego .org/johnnyutah/mission2africa /html  or just
click onto from the St. Brigid website.  If you have auction items you can
donate to this fundraiser, please let me know.

If you cannot attend, but would like to donate, you can do that on the
website, too, or send a check made out to "St. Brigid Parish African
Missions" to me at St. Brigid at 4735 Cass Street, San Diego, CA 92109 for
all proceeds to go to Africa.

You can also find the information on the locations we will be
visiting/donating to. You may designate which location you wish to
contribute to.

I can share with you what we learn, share pictures and stories when we
return to keep you informed on how your contribution helped.  We will
continue to raise money, so if you find you cannot right now, but can in
months from now, we would be happy to send more money to them later. Please
also keep this mission and these people in your prayers.

Thank you so much.

Love and Blessings,

Erika T. Johnson
