The
Beatitudes |
Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the land.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of
God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of
righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven.
Matthew 5:3-10 |

Receiving
Holy Communion |
To receive Holy Communion, you must be free
from mortal sin. You must
be sorry for any venial sin committed
since your last confession. The
penitential rite at the beginning of
Mass is an opportunity to express
your sorrow.
To honor the Lord, we fast for one hour before receiving
Holy Communion.
Fasting means going without
food and drink, except water and medicine.
Catholics are required to receive Holy Communion at least
once a year
during Easter time. But it is
important to receive Holy Communion
often - if possible, at every Mass.
Catholics are permitted to receive Holy Communion more than
once
a day within Mass. |

Examination
of Conscience |
- Look at your life in the light of the Beatitudes, the
Ten Commandments, the Great Commandment, and the precepts
of the Church.
- Ask yourself:
- Where
have I fallen short of what God wants for me?
- Whom
have I hurt?
- What
have I done that I knew was wrong?
- What
have I not done that I should have done?
- Are
there sins I neglected to mention the last time I confessed?
- Have
I done penance and tried as hard as I could to make up
for past sins?
- Have
I made the necessary changes in bad habits?
- What
areas am I still having trouble with?
- Am I
sincerely sorry for all my sins?
- In addition to any sins you are confessing, you may wish
to talk about one or more of the above questions
with the priest.
- Pray for the Holy Spirit's help in making a fresh start.

Praying
the Rosary |
- Hold the crucifix, and pray the Apostles' Creed.
- Pray the Lord's Prayer when holding each single
bead.
- Pray the Hail Mary on each bead in a group of three or
ten. A group of ten Hail Marys is called a decade of the
Rosary. Think of one mystery as you pray each decade.
- After every group of Hail Marys, pray Glory to the
Father.
- Close the Rosary by praying Hail, Holy Queen.
Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy,
hail our life, our sweetness, and our hope.
To you we cry, the children of Eve;
to you we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this land of exile.
Turn, then, most gracious advocate,
your eyes of mercy toward us;
lead us home at last
and show us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus:
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary. |
