Every Saturday evening at 7 p.m. and on Friday evening, at 7:30 p.m. members of Alcoholics Anonymous meet at Our Lady of Poland Roman Catholic Church. AA is a world-wide fellowship begun sixty years ago to help those suffering from the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual effects of alcoholism. Attendance at this meeting often reaches 50 - 60 men and women. |

The Saturday evening "Back to Basics" AA meeting has a core membership of approximately a dozen people, male and female, and in the summer tourist season attendance triples, with visitors from Massachusetts to Manhattan , Florida, Texas and Philadelphia.Members share on such topics as "Let Go and Let God", "Forgiveness", "Dealing with anger", the "Serenity Prayer" (God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference), "what did you do to stay sober today", "Easy Does It", "First Things First", "Self-pity" and "Gratitude" among countless others.
There are no dues or fees for AA membership; the fellowship is self-supporting through voluntary contributions. Literature is available, as well as a list of other meetings in Suffolk County. A 24 hour hotline assists those reaching out for help or in crisis.
