NEXT WEEKENDS On the past men’s weekend in Newark, one of the new cursillistas, Mark Peterson, the president at Bishop Kearney High School, graciously suggested that we might consider hosting some future Cursillo event at that facility. Our Three Day Coordinating team met with Mark and was given a tour of the 3rd floor that formerly housed men and women religious in separate wings. We are very pleased to announce that both the next men’s weekend (January 20th-23rd) and women’s weekend (February 10th-13th) will be held in that facility (with real bedrooms & real showers!). Some of the logistics (breakdown-setup) for holding a weekend will be simplified because both weekends are being held in the same facility and we will be able to leave some of the equipment there between the weekends. Many thanks to Mark for this most generous gift to our Movement. TEAM SELECTION Occasionally we are asked questions about team selection, and at the Secretariat meeting this past June 8th in Geneva, potential Coordinators for the next men & women’s weekends were discussed. The eligibility to serve as a coordinator is based not solely on the number of prior teams one serves on, but on a person’s familiarity and understanding of not only the three day weekend process, but on the whole Cursillo Movement itself. We have a database that keeps track of who served on which weekend and gave which particular talk. Also involvement in Cursillo workshops, Ultreya attendance, Spiritual Direction, Grouping and Regional meeting attendance are other variables that are considered when that important role of coordinator is selected. If there are equally eligible candidates, names are tossed into a hat and a coordinator is chosen with hopefully the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The important role of backup coordinator is in most cases the only other person on the weekend with even more experience than the coordinator (having served in that capacity before). The spiritual directors of our local movement, with input from the future coordinators, lay director(s) and assistant lay director(s), will meet to assemble a list of potential team members (including team spiritual directors). We try to achieve a balance of veteran as well as rookie team members. We also try to select members from most Ultreya centers. The teaming process will hopefully allow team members to grow personally in the Cursillo mentality, in turn allowing them to share the gift with others. If you have felt called to become more involved in the Movement, and would like to volunteer helping out on a weekend either as a team member or as a behind the scenes person, please email us at fagandvm@rochester.rr.com There are a limited number of openings for team members, but the behind the scene folks are always welcome, including those that will carry us through prayer and palanca. FALL MEETING On October 29th to 31st, there will be a weekend Cursillo Workshop (CLW1) held at the Watson Homestead in the southern tier. This workshop is the basic workshop designed to give the Cursillistas an in depth view of the Purpose, Strategy, and Method of the Cursillo Movement. Have you recently made a weekend and would like to learn more about the Cursillo Movement? For more veteran Cursillistas, perhaps family or other commitments in the past have prevented you from attending past workshops. Please consider joining us this fall at this weekend. Keep in prayer the team from our Regional that is in the process of formation and guide us on the weekend. De Colores! |
