This past year, the children of St. Mark embarked on a mission of service to those in need. The children held a bake sale, made and sold cards, babysat, wrapped Christmas presents, and contributed their Lenten Almsgiving to our Houses for Haiti project. We raised $3,940.83. That was enough money to build two houses in Haiti for families that have no homes. Below is the letter we have received from Food For The Poor, Inc., the organization responsible for building these homes.Read on below for more information about this project. |

| The
children of St. Mark are joining "Food for the Poor", an
international Catholic relief agency that builds home for the poor in
Haiti. During the month of December, the children held a bake
sale, wrapped Christmas presents, made and sold Christmas cards, and
baby sat to raise money for their Hati house. We're pleased to
announce that so far we have raised $481.00.
Our goal is $1,500.00.
Each house built in Haiti costs $1500.00. At this point we
have enough money to supply the cement floor, zinc roofing, 3 windows
and a door. Please continue to look for future fund-raising events
held by the children of St. Mark.
Thousands of men, women and children are desperately searching for simple shelter after losing their homes and livelihood in a fire or hurricane. For now, their homes are often makeshift structures with walls of cardboard, rusty tin sheets and plastic that can blow down easily in a simple thunderstorm. Food For The Poor's home building program replaces these patchwork shacks with sturdy lumber homes. |
Donations are always welcomed. If you're interested in donating money to this worthy cause, please make your check payable to St. Mark, put it in an envelope marked Jill Trail, Hati House.
