LAY CARMELITE COMMUNITY
OF ST. TERESA OF AVILA

A Lay Carmelite community is an alternative community dedicated to a
quiet life of prayer and contemplation.  By our lives and through our prayers we
hope to bring to others this deeper prayer life.

Meeting together once a month, we learn about Carmel and Carmelite saints,
such as our great Teresa of Avila.  We work on developing a more insightful meaning
of contemplative prayer and how to live this prayerful life in the world.  We pray the
Liturgy of the Hours individually during the month and in community at our meetings.

We are dedicated to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, our model and patroness.  We try to
emulate her silence and prayerful attentiveness to Jesus.  Following also in the
footsteps of Elijah, considered to be the father of Carmel, we are involved in
various ministries in the church and community.

The three-part call to Carmel, prayer, community and ministry, brings us
closer to Christ and strengthens our union with God.  Membership is open to all
Catholic men and women over the age of 17.  If you would like to learn more about
us or visit our meetings, please contact
Nancy Childress, T.O.C. at 246-5337 or e-mail nlccbs@aol.com
