Our official title is: Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, abbreviated to C.Ss.R (the abbreviation is based on the Latin: Congregatio Sanctissimi Redemptoris), and we are popularly known as 'Redemptorists' (or even sometimes, in irreverent slang, as 'Reds' - that got a bit confusing to some people during the Cold War!)

Our founder was St. Alphonsus Liguori, later declared a Doctor of the Church for his writings on Moral Theology.

Our Patroness is Mary, Mother of Perpetual Help, as pictured in an ancient Greek-style icon that hangs in our church in Rome.

There is a special section on the Vocation or calling to the Redemptorist way of life which includes a word from our Vocation Directors, and a means of contacting them.

WHO ARE WE? WHERE ARE WE? WELL, BRIEFLY:

We are a group of Catholic Missionary Priests and Brothers founded by St Alphonsus Liguori in 1732 at Scala in Italy and were introduced to Australia from England by Father Edmund Vaughan C.Ss.R in 1882 in the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle in the State of New South Wales.

Our Australian Headquarters is in the Sydney suburb of Kogarah; we also have communities in Newcastle and Galong (NSW), Brighton and Kew (Vic), and Perth (WA). In New Zealand, our community is in Auckland. The world headquarters of our congregation is in Rome, and Redemptorists can be found in most countries of Europe and Asia, in North and South America, and in several African nations.
