 REDEMPTORISTS IN AUSTRALIA TODAY
Since 1732, the fire that lit Alphonsus' heart burns strong in the lives of Redemptorists who have followed in his footsteps.  This is the bond that unites over 5,500 Redemptorists in nearly every country of the world.

We Redemptorists have been part of the Australian Church for more than 110 years during which time nearly every parish in Australia has at some time or another had a 'Redemptorist Mission', an experience of grace, renewal and conversion for the individual and parish, challenging Australians with the Good News of Jesus to live deeply and simply.

We Redemptorists are called to help the ordinary Australian to make sense of life and faith, and particularly people who feel "left out"- those suffering injustice, those crippled with guilt and shame, those who don't belong, those without hope - those whom St. Alphonsus called "the abandoned".  We work with people of all ages and have a tradition of speaking with simplicity.

In Italy 250 Years ago
When the task-force of the first Redemptorists set out to realise the dream of their leader, Alphonsus Liguori, it was to live as a team for mutual and spiritual support; then to go as a team into remote areas, offering people instruction, encouragement and inspiration.  These ordinary people found their simple lives enriched with the life of God.

The small team grew and moved first through the Italian states, then across the borders of Europe and finally across the seas.

In Australia more than 100 years ago....

when a task force of six Redemptorists came from England and Ireland in 1882 and set out to extend the dream of Alphonsus to our country....they chose to go wherever they were needed.
