SPONSORS at Baptism represent the believing Christian Community. Thus it is required that they be practicing Catholics in good standing with the Church, who have themselves received the Sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation and have reached the age of 16. If they are married, they must have been validly married in the Church. The Code of Canon Law states they must lead... .a life in harmony with faith and the role to be undertaken.. .and will help the baptized to lead a Christian life in harmony with Baptism, and to fulfill faithfully the obligations connected with it. Please, therefore, do not embarrass yourself and the priest by choosing individuals who are not faithful church-goers.
SPONSOR CERTIFICATES-One of the wonderful privileges of being a practicing Roman Catholic and belonging to a parish as a worshiping member of a "Faith Community" is the ability to represent the Catholic Church at the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation. Sponsor certificates, therefore, are given only to practicing Catholics by the pastor of the Church where they attend Mass each Sunday. Your parish priests do not have the authority to award these certificates to persons who do not worship here, or to persons whose parents or grandparents worship here. Having been baptized at Saint Bartholomew Church or having attended school here does not make you a parishioner or a member of the "Faith Community" of this parish. Remember that being a "Sponsor" at a Sacrament makes you a proper representative of the Catholic Church. If you do not go to Mass or practice your Catholic faith, the role of representative would be inappropriate for you. How could you ever represent a group in which you no longer participate?

-- The Parish of St. Bartholomew in the community of Silver Lake was organized in 1905 by Rev. Domenico Belliotti, P.S.S.C., then the Pastor of Holy Ghost Church in Federal Hill. Services were first held in the San Liberato Hall on 621 Union Avenue until the first Church, located on Moorefield Street, was dedicated on September 22, 1907. A Shrine and Park now stands in the location of that first Church.
From 1907 till 1911 the Parish was considered a filial mission of Holy Ghost Parish on Federal Hill and was staffed by the Pastor, Rev. Domenico Belliotti, P.S.S.C., and the Priests of Holy Ghost - Rev. Vittorio Gregori, P.S.S.C. - 1907 - 1908; Rev. Nicolino Armento, P.S.S.C. - 1908 - 1910
St. Bartholomew's became an independent Parish in 1910 with the Rev. Leonard Quaglia as the first resident Pastor.
In 1969, because of the increase in size of the Parish throughout the years, a new and larger Church was built next to the Parish School on Laurel Hill Avenue.
The Parish is staffed by the Missionary Fathers of St. Charles Borromeo (Congregation of Scalabrinians - C.S.)
The following served as Pastors:

Rev. Flaminio Parenti, P.S.S.C. - 1920 - 1922 (dec. February 27, 1972)
Rev. Pietro Gorret, P.S.S.C. - 1922 - 1949 - (deceased) Enlarged the original Church in 1926 and added the existing Bell Tower.
Rev. Attilio Bordignon, P.S.S.C. - 1949 - 1957 (dec. July 10, 1995) - Built our Parish School which was dedicated on August 23, 1953.
