---Our Parish Society History
In our United States there has always been the need of a chosen few of the Neighborhood Community or Parish that were always on hand to give help to any need that arose at the moment. On many instances it was the Holy Name Society that came out first to give a hand.

During the days when St. Bartholomew Parish was on Moorefield Street, our Holy Name Society would give everyone who lived around the Church aid and assistance with a smile and a grin.

It was during the days when Father Peter Gorret was Pastor, that the first of the pioneers of the original Italian Holy Name Society joined forces with the new American generation of hopeful members that now became the present Italian-American Holy Name Society.

Since that time, we have seen that St. Bartholomew's Church has moved up to Laurel Hill Avenue and that many of our Parishioners have moved away to other Neighborhods, but have managed to still belong to the Parish. The long traditions and customs of their Grandparents from Guarcino, Vairano, and other places did not freeze over but became more alive and warm in their descendants. That's the reason why St. Bartholomew's Holy Name Society has survived.

---About Our Parish Society
The Holy Name Society of St. Bartholomew's Church is composed of a dedicated group of men who want to not only deepen their Faith in the Sacramental Life of the Church, but also want to help the members of their Parish.

These men offer their full support to our Parish Priests in the vital activity of Christian living. They stress the importance of religion in the Catholic family by attending weekly Mass and attempting to live their Faith seriously at home, at work, and in the social life.

Our Holy Name men encourage Catholic men of all ages to openly worship God through their Monthly Mass, Holy Communion and Prayer. The Primary objective of our Society is to attend Mass and receive Holy Communion in a body so that the true faith and vitality of the Catholic Church will cause them to be true beacons of light in these times when family life and Christian morality are being attacked.

---Social & Religious Activities

Make no mistake about it, these men also have a full social life within the Society:

---Like most men, they will enjoy a little friendly game of cards after their monthly meetings.
---They sponsor dances and fund-raising events throughout the year, which are always very successful and lots of fun.
---They assist at Mass as Ushers, Collectors, Lector/Commentators, and Eucharistic Ministers.
---They attend as a body and serve at the 9:00AM Mass each Holy Name Sunday, the second Sunday of the month.
---As a group they attend the wake of a brother member or his immediate family.
---And they make themselves available to assist the Pastor with any repair work the Parish needs.

There is absolutely nothing dull about being a member of St. Bartholomew's Holy Name Society.
