The Welcome Ministry

The Welcome Ministry at St. Pat's was originally combined with the Hospitality Ministry, but became an independent body about six months ago.  At this time, it became evident that the work of the two groups would serve our parish in different ways, and that two ministries could involve more parishioners.

The original core group consisted of eight volunteers.  They met frequently during the organizational period to define the role of the Welcome Ministry and to consider what might be done to strengthen our faith community.  Their first effort established our greeters, the group of parishioners who extend a welcome at our Masses, whether one is a longtime member, a new parishioner, or a visitor to St. Patrick Church.  Delores Allen coordinates the schedule of volunteer greeters.  This project is a major component of this ministry.

One of the group's goals is to give people the sense that they are welcome at St. Pat's, so the volunteers began work on a brochure that gives a sketch of what goes on in our parish.  When completed, this publication will show the extensive outreach of our Church.

Another project is the development of a welcoming packet.  This packet will benefit people preparing to make choices as to how they would like to participate in our faith community.

As she looks toward the future, contact person Ferna Majewicz says that the Welcome Ministry already is considering possible new activities such as an organized program to visit parishioners in their homes.

These ministry workers are interested in reaching out to people in every way possible to extend the stewardship spirit of sharing of time and talent.  For more information, or to volunteer in this ministry, please call Ferna Majewicz at (610) 444-3485.
