In the event that either of the above parties was ever previously married, certain details about the termination of that marriage will be needed for the file.  A Roman Catholic, once married, cannot marry again unless death or an ecclesiastical Decree of Nullity intervenes.  A Roman Catholic may not marry someone else who has been previously married without the same interventions.  The Decree of Nullity must be issued by a Tribunal, i.e. a Church court.
