The
parish newsletter was one of the first major items discussed by the
stewardship committee. The committee agreed upon a quarterly
communication that would be sent to all registered families; thus, our
newsletter -- St. Pat's Today -- was begun. The first issue
was mailed March 17, 2001; the fourth issue will be mailed in early
December.
The
newsletter is intended to inform parishioners about ongoing events within
the parish, as well as to provide features of interest about parish
history, staff, ministries and other articles that may build a sense of
community within the parish.
Rich
McAdams is the editor of St. Pat's Today with a staff of five
working with him, along with two staff editors. The preparation is
handled in a very professional manner. A month prior to the mailing,
the staff meets to discuss topics for the issue. Rich says there are
always more topics than available space. Staff members can volunteer
to write specific articles, or subjects can be assigned according to the
interest of writers.
Articles
are due within three weeks from assignment. After editing, the
information is inserted into the Publisher software program and edited
again. The printer, a member of St. Pat's parish, has the issue
ready in a week. At this point, another group of volunteers prepare
the newsletter for mailing and take it to the Kennett Square post
office. Most parishioners have their copy within two days of
mailing.
The
goal of the newsletter ministry is to keep parishioners informed about the
people and activities within our faith community. Accordingly,
everyone is welcome to share this stewardship of time and talent by
offering comments or suggesting topics for St. Pat's Today.
