School Volunteers

St. Patrick School has 80 volunteers working at our school.  Because students come from St. Gabriel, Sacred Heart and St. Mary of the Assumption (Hockessin) parishes, some of the volunteers come from these parishes as well.

School volunteers serve as library assistants or as playground aides, together with someone from our school.  They work in the nurse's office handling the bandages and being the soothing presence when a child needs care.  They also assist with hot lunches a few days each week.

None of these tasks require special training.  What the workers do are the everyday tasks that come naturally or though a brief introduction to the job.  As in all phases of working with children in programs at St. Patrick's, a police background check and child abuse record check is required.  This assures everyone that those working with our children are of the highest character.

The school volunteer ministry offers the opportunity to work for short periods of time on typical volunteer schedules and also welcomes individuals who can serve as substitutes.

Principal Marge Mecca, the contact person for this ministry, says "Without our volunteers, our school would definitely be in trouble."

If you have time you can share with our school, please call Mrs. Mecca at (610) 444-3104.
